In Loving Memory of Daniel ‘Skell' Mckselly,
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and brother, Daniel, affectionately known as 'Skell,' who left us at the age of 48. He departed this world on Thursday 14 December leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of warmth, laughter and creativity.
Born on 27th June 1975 Daniel was a true aficionado of the written word. His love for reading was unparalleled, and he could often be found immersed in the realms of fantasy and adventure within the pages of his favourite novels. His passion for literature extended to the fantastical worlds of comics and graphic novels, where he found joy in the vibrant storytelling and captivating characters that filled the pages.
Dan was an internationally-established web developer. Remarkably, he was entirely self-taught. He started out in one of his first jobs, asking his boss if he could get involved with their website. Just a few years later, he edited and wrote one chapter of the book ‘Flash Magic’, which became one of the top selling IT books on Amazon. He became so well-known in the industry, he was flown to the US to judge a website design competition.
Beyond his professional achievements, Daniel's true essence was illuminated by the relationships he cultivated. A loyal friend and confidant, he had an innate ability to make those around him feel the importance of doing the right thing regardless of the personal cost to him and this landed him in more than a few ‘David and Goliath’ situations. His laughter was infectious, and his genuine kindness left an enduring impact on the lives he touched which will not quickly be forgotten.
In his leisure, Daniel found solace in the simple pleasures of life. Whether losing himself in the intricate plots of a novel, exploring the vast realms of fantasy, or engaging in spirited discussions about the latest comic book, tv or film release, he embraced his passions with unbridled enthusiasm.
Daniel's departure leaves a void that cannot be easily filled and the tears will take a long time to dry, but we find solace in the memories we shared and the knowledge that his spirit will live on in the stories he loved and the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service to celebrate Daniel's life will be held on Thursday 11 January at 12 pm at Rose Hill crematory in Doncaster. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to MSF (Doctors without Borders) in his honour.
May you rest in peace dear Skell, and even though you too are now ‘back to the mud’ your presence will be deeply missed and your memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
