In memory of Avis Strudwick who sadly passed away on 28th November 2023. She was a loving wife to Brian and wonderful mother to Ian, Steven and Alys.

Her wishes were for a private burial for family and close friends. Please dress warmly, bright colours welcomed.

The family have requested no flowers. Donations to St Leonards Hospice are appreciated as they cared for her brilliantly.

Wouldn’t it be lovely if these three beautiful people were sat on a cloud somewhere right now… they’d be laughing for sure x

  • A great photo. For a moment I thought the hand on my Mum's shoulder was Richard's but (a) too small, (b) he didn't have three hands, (c) thumb on the wrong side of the hand. It is good to see my siblings so relaxed and happy and young.

Avis was such a lovely person with a no nonsense approach to life and a wicked sense of humour. She led us on some wonderful walks through her beloved West Yorkshire and beyond. I remember her lending me a book of walking routes when I was planning to lead my first walk. I was so nervous about it and Avis was very supportive. On one walk we were passing through a field of cows when they all came stampeding towards us. I was quaking but Avis didn't even spare them a glance. She just carried on walking and talking and with a flick of her wrist she sent them packing. Oh Avis, you were truly amazing!

Avis and I retired at about the same time (2010) and joined York Ramblers Public Transport Walks. We later organised the walks programmes together and had many laughs doing this despite difficulties with changed bus routes, cancelled trains, and then of course the pandemic. Avis was delightful company, she had so many interests and lived life to the full. She will be greatly missed by myself and all the walkers.
