Karen was a phenomenal person, a real ray of light, joy and enthusiasm for everyone she got involved with everything she got involved in - with her extended family and friends at countless get togethers and holidays, in her career as a designer and communications manager at Lubrizol, and also in her all her many creative pursuits - as a successful award-winning songwriter and musician in her three bands, ZOO, JET Collective & TRIO Nerveux.
In her later years she was also a well exhibited artist, focusing on linoprint and drypoint printing, alongside other mixed media works, as well as an accomplished poet, publishing a book of her work and prints expressing her journey living with cancer. Despite battling cancer for seven years, she always remained positive and optimistic until the end.
Karen was passionate about music (listening, writing, recording, performing and attending numerous gigs), art, theatre, film (especially silent cinema), reading and history, and produced three detailed books on her own families histories. She travelled extensively for both holidays and with her career. Karen was also a big supporter of charities and has done numerous fundraising events both in her professional role and also through her personal charitable donations.
Born in Leicester on March 25th 1965, she appeared on the professional stage as a child before going university in Nottingham to complete a degree in graphic design. There she met her husband Reg, and they married on June 9th 1990 at St Mary's Church, Nottingham before moving from Nottingham to Breaston in 1996, which is still their home.
Above all, Karen valued people and her warm, engaging personality and sense of fun made an impact on everyone who met her, with an infectious laugh and a great big hug. Her legacy is not just her creativity, but how she brought people together. Karen packed a lot into her amazing life and will be greatly missed.
