Although we didn't meet up very often because of distance, Alan was always on hand when needed.

  • I always found Alan to be friendly, straight forward, helpful and reliable. The first time I saw him play cricket was at Purbrook one Sunday, 25 +years ago with Stan Rudder in his team. He played more balls off the back foot than the front giving all the front footers something to think about. Also He was simply a good Umpire at any level. Thanks-Al Mike B

Since our school reunions started several years ago, Alan became a good friend and a valued member of our group. I have had the pleasure of being there with Alan over the last two years as he fought for his health. He was a perfect gentleman, always ready for a good debate and I will miss him dreadfully. My thoughts are with Jeannie and the family.

  • Although I didn't know Alan very well at school I just wish to concur with Graham's thoughts above. I thoroughly enjoyed talking with him (we often took differing views on current affairs) at our regular 'Old Boys' meetings at The Harrow. A great character and, as Graham says, a gentleman. I shall miss his company..
