June Winifred Anne Sherwin (6 Jun 1932 - 2 Nov 2023)

In loving memory of June Winifred Anne Sherwin who sadly passed away on 2nd November 2023

June was born to parents Vera and Wallace in Chesterfield on 6 June 1932, on a date which was later to be known as "D-Day". She was an older sister to Pam who has already passed away.

June grew up in Duckmanton, near Bolsover in Derbyshire, where her father was the chauffeur to the Head of the Pit Colliery at Bolsover. When she was young, June was a keen tennis player and belonged to the local tennis club. June had formal piano lessons and enjoyed playing the upright piano in the family home.

June met Ron at a dance held at the local youth club nearby. They married and had one son – Philip. June and Ron began their married life in Southend, due to Ron’s job as a Civil Servant working for the Immigration Service. After a few years, Ron was transferred to Dover and then to Heathrow Airport.

June and Ron divorced when Phil was 12, but June made a happy, independent life for herself. Having earlier worked at at Pfizers in Sandwich She loved her work in the pharmaceutical industry as a Medical Secretary, and resumed it by joining working and Boehringer Ingleheim in Bracknell. To keep herself active, when she retired from this post, she worked for Asda.

June was always interested in people and game for an adventure; she loved the sun and has enjoyed many holidays with friends and family. The last family holiday was to France at their friend Marj's house - June was in a wheelchair using the assisted boarding lift - she took it in her stride, laughing and enjoying the experience.

June loved and was fascinated by flight - both loving the birds in her garden and also everything to do with aviation. She had a passion for Concorde, and a highlight of her life was to have a flight to New York - she was in tears of enjoyment along with all the staff! She loved going to the air shows in Eastbourne, and especially loved the Red Arrows.

During her later years, June was cared for by her neighbours, Beverley and Lisa, Caroline, Stu and Julie, who helped her maintain her independence as long as possible.

For the past three years, June had lived at Balgowan Care Home in Saltwood, where she was very comfortable and cared for by their very caring and personable staff.
