I met Belinda at nursery school and Laurence some years later and our paths came together infrequently as our children grew up and as Beryl and I visited Kent from time to time.
We were sorry to hear that Laurence will no longer be with you and pray you will all receive strength at this time.

I remember tumbling out of the car in East Malling with stiff legs after what always seemed a long journey and coming in by the back door by the kitchen. Uncle Laurence would usually be the first to greet everyone with a tongue in cheek comment, an affectionate pat and a mug of hot soup. He and Auntie Belinda could host forty people and every guest would be individually checked in on, looked after and feel cared for - all wrapped up in a teasing and sardonic manner, he would never be sentimental - but he had a gift for really knowing people and being genuinely interested in how we children were thinking and growing, which continued into our adulthood. We knew that Uncle Laurence and Auntie Belinda would always be there for us. Their house was a second home full of fun, warmth, good food and outdoor adventures, that I always looked forward to visiting and where I became friends with our family. We played football in the garden, tramped over muddy fields and through the woods, read in the attic, hid in every corner of the house, and somehow even got away with climbing the giant bay tree in his much loved garden. I'm so sad he has left us but he will never be forgotten - I will always think of him with great love.

I am one of Laurence's sisters and so remember when Laurence drove the Bond Mini a three wheeled car to the Fortrose on the Black Isle. It got stuck getting on to the ferry and we all got out and had to lift it over as it had a motor cycle engine and could not reverse. His sense of humour was to the forefront something he shared with us all. I lit a candle for him at our church service here in Ontario Canada and spoke of him to our congregation. Rest in peace Laurence, Hazel
