It seems literally everyone who had the pleasure of meeting my cousin Ian, truly adored him. It’s hard to even picture him without a big smile across his cheeky face (and a big bright Hawaiian shirt from the rough-and-ready markets of South Auckland!). Ian was the type of person many of us wish we could be like— the rare breed who can strike up a genuinely enjoyable conversation with a total stranger (and tell THEM 5 interesting facts about their own home town probably too- ha!)… in fact, they didn’t even have to speak English! No matter who you were, Ian could and would make a mate of you. What a special man and a true-blue Arky, that’s for sure. After the birth of my first child in 2022, Ian and I were in contact via email more than ever before. Ian had a certain magic with children, even long-distance over FaceTime-video he had my little boy in fits of giggles, freshly armed with a repertoire of new silly faces, and totally enamoured. It was a joy to witness. Ian was MOST proud of his girls. Alice and Emily, I hope you know exactly how much your dad’s words swelled with pride when he spoke of your achievements, your travels, and even what sports teams you were showing interest in at any given time- he loved you beyond measure and always will. Thank you Ian, for being with us as long as you were. It’s heartbreaking for us all that we didn’t get you for longer. You will be forever missed by so many, and never ever forgotten. You were a kind, intelligent, hilarious, seriously adventurous, and passionate man with an absolute heart of gold. I’ll never walk past Westham colours and not think of my awesome cousin Ian ♥️ Love and big hugs from Natalie, Ryan, and Alexander in Chicago
