In loving memory of Margaret Scott who sadly passed away in Wishaw General Hospital on 13th September 2023 aged 93 years. Loving wife to the late Geordie . Mum to Billy and the late Moira. Gran to Gayle and Fiona. Mother in law to Karen. Sister to the late John, Bobby and Nancy. She was also an Aunt and a great friend to many and will be very much missed by all who knew her. Family flowers only please. On the day of the service there will be a collection in aid of Making Friends (Lanark) and The British Heart Foundation.

Billy, Gayle, Fiona and myself would like to thank everyone for all the very kind cards and beautiful flowers we have received since Margaret’s passing. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who came from far and wide to the celebration of Margaret’s life yesterday in St Nicholas Church and then Daldowie, it was very much appreciated.

We hope in small way we managed to capture Margaret’s spirit and her mischievous sense of humour. The sum of £400 was very kindly donated by everyone at the service and will be split evenly between the Making Friends in Lanark Charity and The British Heart Foundation.

Finally we would like to say a huge thank you to all those who visited Margaret in Wishaw General Hospital over the last 4 weeks of her life, it meant the world to her and we greatly appreciated it.

I’m so sorry to hear of Auntie Margaret’s passing. When I was growing up on Wellwood Avenue we could always pop in to play with Moira and Billy. I left Lanark a long time ago and I’m sorry I lost touch, especially with Billy. Condolences to you all

Auntie Margaret was an amazing woman and I was lucky to have shared a lifetime of memories with her. These included lots of love, laughter and tears. From a very young age till recently she had to rise above so many obstacles .She did it with great determination,a smile on her face and a wee bit help from Bingo. One her great joys when we were together was playing crib with Colin, who she loved dearly They played in Leicester,Nottingham,Lanark,Aberdeen,Norfolk Broads,Scarborough,Willetton,Yangibup,Canning Vale,Busselton and Collie. All I could hear was “See you Colin “She was a very important and big part of our lives and will be greatly missed by us both. But she deserves to be at rest now and enjoy being reunited with all her loved ones who she’s waited such a long time to see again Anyway Rest In Peace Till We meet again love always Margaret and Colin xxx

Aunty Margaret. Big Chief. No words will ever sum up the love we had and the joy you brought to my life. I grew up with you by my side every step of the way and have the utmost admiration for your strength, tenacity, and unwavering sense of humour.
From sleepovers on the couch cushions on the floor of your living room, eating cold Chinese for breakfast, eating Chinese with meat in it because you didn’t “do” vegetarian (when I was), celebrating the Lanimers hanging out of your windows, and having the privilege of watching you send “Harry son” down to the bin or to Tesco, then Liddle’s, with a specific shopping list. Life will not be the same without you. My favourite was the competition between you and Aunty Nancy when Harry and I first came to visit and your look when Aunty Nancy was applying her lipstick to perfection for a photo.
You have been a solid foundation in my life, and I will never be able to thank you for everything you have done for me. I see so much of you in Jamie, from his cheeky smile, his wit, and his quick smarts in games, not to mention his natural ability at bingo calling, and for that I am so very grateful. He might never have met you in person, but my goodness does he know, love and will always keep the memory of you.
We will forever sing paper roses, make sure we eat promptly at the right time and exclaim “by jings” when things don’t go right. Thank you for being the person that taught me “we only shout at people we love” and thank you for being the amazing woman you were.
Life will not be the same without you, but we will make sure that life does not continue without the memory of you. You will forever be in our hearts and a big part of our lives. I miss you and love you x

Remembering lots of happy memories of Auntie Margaret singing songs - especially Paper Roses and playing games - everything from cards to basketball with our kids when she visited us in Australia. So special that three generations shared the same birthday. What a generous, kind and gentle inspiration for us all.

Dear Margaret
When as a stranger to Lanark I arrived as your next door neighbor perhaps ten years ago, your friendly disposition and kindness came as a huge welcome.
Indeed, there have been several occasions when your generosity of spirit has proved to be of tremendous comfort.

I well recall the time of arriving home from the heat of Asia to find there was no electricity in the flat during the chilly weather and your suggestion was to plug an extension lead into your kitchen socket to provide some basic power for the three days until the supplier reconnected.
It takes a big heart to make such a generous offer and I was immensely grateful for that and all the many other acts of kindness which only the very best of neighbors would volunteer.
We became good friends over those few years and it was always a great pleasure to be in your company for a chat and a cuppa, or else to make up a foursome for dominos during my annual three months vacation.

You were one of a kind Margaret, a very special lady who will never be forgotten.
It is a most fervent wish that we shall meet again some day in the fullness of time, when for sure we shall both be overjoyed to once more share a bowl of soup!
The highest compliment I can deservedly give is to say that you were the salt of the earth.

May the Almighty look upon you with benevolence, bestow his blessing and grant everlasting peace and happiness in the next world, whence you have recently departed. Amen

Fond memories of our time visiting Aunt Margaret with her welcoming us into her home for tea whilst on holidays from Australia. She had the same sparkle in her eye and cheeky smile as our dear Grandpa (Bobby) and we had a couple of wonderful afternoons full of laughs. She particularly liked the name of my husband Scott :) A special lady who will be missed. Much love to our family near and far xx
