In loving memory of Paul Mapp who died suddenly and unexpectedly on 14th September 2023. Much loved partner of Louise, big brother to Karen and uncle to Fraser. Retired research scientist, keen sailor, bridge player, traveller, passionate and opinionated cricket and rugby supporter and excellent curry chef, he will be greatly missed.

In accordance with Paul's wishes, a private cremation was held and, with the help of the Dark Horse Sailing Club, his ashes were left on the Bramble Bank in the Solent. No flowers; donations to Paul's chosen charity.

An online celebration of his life was held on Zoom on Saturday 28th October - if you were unable to attend, and would like to see the recording, please contact Paul's partner Louise.

Only just heard this sad news, Louise - thinking of both you and Paul and remembering some great sails and meals, sailing on the Clyde and in the Western Isles.
Hope you are doing OK, come and visit Bonnie Scotland when you can. Much love - Patricia x

I was so sorry, and shocked, to hear this sad news about Paul. It’s clear from the many messages on this page, that Paul has been a central and influential person to many people in many different ways. But it should be put on record that, amongst all this, Paul made important contributions to biomedical research during his top-level scientific career, having helped to extend our understanding of arthritic disease processes and the treatment of such human diseases. I’m proud to have worked with Paul during his years in the labs at the Bone and Joint Research Unit, Whitechapel. As mentioned by others, Paul was a central figure in making the lab a fun place to be. But Paul was also widely respected as an extraordinarily skilled immunohistologist, and was the “go-to” research colleague in this scientific area. My condolences go out to Louise, and Paul’s family and friends.

One of our favourite photos of Paul - who could always be relied upon to helm when no-one else wanted to! So many happy memories of so many days aboard. David & Sharon

So long to my Stepney Green flatmate, work buddy in Barts and Bath Uni - and above all my close friend who introduced me to Lloyds Bank Sailing club where I met so many great people and especially my lovely wife Sue. As an immigrant with first academic post in London...this was a game changer.
Paul - we had 10 great years of Scientists behaving badly. LOVE, DEC
