Richard Lee Izard, age 87, of Bishop Norton, Lincolnshire, England died Friday, October 23, 2015, at home after a long illness. Memorial services and Burial will take place in Bishop Norton, Lincolnshire, England, on November 6, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Peters Church, Bishop Norton, UK. Stateside services will take place in Dickinson, Texas at a later date.
Richard was born March 15, 1928, in Dayton, Texas to Raymond P. and Effie Izard. He grew up in Dayton and Baytown Texas and enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1944 at the age of 15 so that he could serve in World War II. Upon return to the United States, he met and married Bernice Genevieve Rugel of Baytown, Texas. He spent 33 years working at the Union Carbide plant in Texas City, Texas, after which he retired in the early 1980’s. He served many years as a volunteer fireman for the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department, during which he took part in many search-and-rescue, emergency weather evacuation, and fire-fighting efforts. His beloved wife, Bernice, preceded him in death in 1979. He is survived by their four children, Phyllis Ortiz of Dickinson Texas, Charles Izard of Dickinson Texas, Peggie Duffel of Prescott, Arizona, and Alan Izard of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
Richard later moved to Bishop Norton, Lincolnshire, England where he met and married Betty Amelia Martin. They enjoyed traveling and ten wonderful years together. She preceded him in death in 2010. He is survived by four step-children, Gail McDonald of Whitehaven, UK, Kim Martin of Newcastle England, John Martin of Weldon, England, Simon Martin of Whitehaven, England, Jackie Espin of Scunthorpe, UK and 8 step grandchildren.
