Dear Joy and kids,my brother told me that Jol passed away.He was for a few years a dear friend of mine.He learned me to play darts in the Seventies.Never forget the meals we had with food he brought from his work. Always chicken and ice cream from Iglo. We talked till deep into the night, of course with a good glass. Dirk, his collegue passed away last year.I'll tell Willem, his other collegue that he is gone and we' ll remember him with a nice glass of beer or wine. Dear Joy, I wish you a lot of strenght with your loss, love Millie

  • Dear Millie, thank you for your kind message. I am so sorry I could not let you all know about Jol, sadly I did not have any way of contacting you after all these years. We miss him so much, but am grateful for all those happy years we had with him. I am so so sorry to hear about Dirk, our youngest son Tom was named after him, Thomas Dirk Dent! He has two sons of his own now! If ever you come to Cornwall I would love to meet up again. I live in a little village called Rilla Mill, only a mile or so away from where we were all those years ago. Jol was very lucky to have such good friends when he was in Netherlands. He still remembered his Dutch! Love from Joy xx

Only by accidence we stumbled upon this obituary about Jolyon, a dear friend we've known in the late 70's and 80's. Since 1988 we've lost contact but still nourish our memories with Jol, Joy and te children. In the Netherlands and in Cornwall over several holidays. Jol was a remarkebel person, with a good sense of humour and a wish for a better world. We still are talking often of him with friends that know him here in Holland. Dearest Joy anx kids, we wish that you remember him of who he was a kind and open minded person and wisn you all the strenght to deal with yhis loss. Peter and Dorien

I have lots of fond memories of Jol; dinner parties, chats in the lane, waves from the camper, banter at functions in the village hall. A lovely neighbour of 30 years + who I will miss very much.

I would often see Jolyon walking with his dog, either in Stara Woods or on his way there. I will fondly remember his friendly manner as he went on his way. I will miss you Jolyon!

We will always remember Jol as the generous man who bravely lent us his campervan for a week, that kindled our desire to get our own. His love of curry and entertaining made for some memorable meals together. Jude & David

We have many fond memories of Jol including following his instructions for Bridge, camping in Nantes for the Rugby World Cup, drinkibg pink fizz in French Sunday markets and fish and chip cinema evenings in Wadebridge. I think these are important and fun memories of times with Joy and Jol over many years and will not be forgotten.

Jolyon was a true gentleman and it has been a privilege to know him. He will be missed by panto players as the face behind the bar. Missed by the neighbours as a gentle, kind man walking out briskly up hill but always ready with a wave. He succeeded in that aspiration to make the world a better place and did it with a smile.

Our thoughts and love are with Joy and the family at this very difficult time. No words, no matter how kind, can mend your broken hearts. However, we wish you comfort and peace. Jol became a very close friend to us at Sunnyside and arguably our most revered confidante. Love db and Sue xx
