Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to many passed away peacefully on 23rd July 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Rowland Orugboh was born in 1939 in Eku, a town in Delta State, Nigeria. He left Sapele for Lagos in the late 1950s, where he assumed a number of roles including working for the renowned United Africa Company of Nigeria (UAC), a Nigerian publicly listed company based in Lagos. From there he relocated to the UK and was later joined by his wife Agnes in the 1960s.
Whilst in the UK, he gained a Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification and also ran an import/export business with his wife.
Together they lovingly raised seven children, sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He dedicated his life to serving God, rising through the ranks of Celestial Church of Christ to become the Special Superior Evangelist. Outside of his faith, he was a dedicated family man, loving husband with a heart for helping people in need through his charitable donations. He was well-regarded and respected within his local community and church family.
Rowland was an advocate for gender equality within his interpersonal relationships, whilst actively promoting education as a means of achieving social mobility and societal change. He was a firm believer that “whatever a man could do, a woman could do too”.
Rowland Orugboh was a skilled orator, often sharing stories from his childhood, family history and heritage, he was also an avid sports lover with a particular interest in football and boxing.
He was one of 36 children and was the last surviving member of the direct Orugboh descendants.
Special Superior Evangelist Orugboh is survived by his wife, Agnes Orugboh, seven children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his deep love of God, and his family, his smile that lit up a room, his wise words and quick wit. He was kind and compassionate. He made an impact on many lives. He will be missed dearly.
