It's with great sadness that we share the passing of Edwin “Eddy” Alexander Maxwell on Wednesday, 28 June 2023. He will be sorely missed and is survived by his wife, Jennifer Maxwell; his children and their partners, Aiesha Maxwell and Robert Webber, and Kala Maxwell and Nila Henry; his grandchildren, Amiya, Kairo and Miles, as well as his many nephews and nieces.

After receiving treatment for cancer in Turkey, Edwin returned to the UK on Saturday, 24 June 2023. All seemed well and, although Edwin was weak, he was talking about getting strong and talking about plans for later in the year. However, on Monday, his health started to deteriorate rapidly, and he passed peacefully two days later with his wife, daughter, and grandson by his side.

Edwin was a fantastic human being, fun-loving, friendly, and unbelievably strong, always putting his friends and family before himself. A big believer in the strength and power of community, he volunteered for several non-profits in the Nottingham area, helping them grow and better serve their clients. He'll be missed by all that loved him, and he was loved by many.

The funeral was held at Mansfield Road Baptist Church on Tuesday, 18th July at 11am. The burial was at Tithe Green Burial Ground at 2pm, followed by a reception in Alexandra Park, Nottingham. A recording of the funeral can be viewed here: https://www.eventhorizonavs.co.uk/edwinmaxwellservice.

Dear Jenny,

Bernadette and I only just realised yesterday that our dear Eddy passed away in June. We came across the documentary on BBC1 last night by accident and we were really stunned beyond words.

Eddy was a real gentleman and we shall miss him dearly.
Jenny, I hope you and the rest of the family will continue to have the strength to bear this loss.

Bernadette and I along with our family (Kemi, Jason and our 4 grandchildren)would like to pay our belated condolences to you all.

May the Almighty continue to grant this gentleman eternal peace.

I ONLY LEARNT TODAY OF THE PASSING OF THIS BEAUTIFUL GENTLEMAN, ONE OF THE NICEST PEOPLE ON THE PLANET,A TRUE GENTLEMAN, AND UTTERLEY PROFESSIONAL. MY FATHER AND MOTHER, MR AND MRS HOLLYFIELD HAD THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR MR MAXWELL WHO TOGETHER WITH HIS TEAM, DID A LOT OF WORK FOR US AND ONCE HAD THE PLEASURE OF WELCOMING MR MAXWELL, MRS MAXWELL AND CHILDREN IN FOR A CUP OF TEA. MR MAXWELL WAS SO, SO PROUD OF HIS FAMILY AND WERE ALWAYS MENTIONED IN CONVERSATION ON EACH VISIT. I AM DEVISTATED TO HEAR THE NEWS, BE PROUD JENNY, AS HE WAS OF ALL OF YOU.
WITH DEEPEST SYMPATHY..LYN HOLLYFIELD 02/10/23

Jennifer, I was so sorry to hear about Edwin from April. For a few years I have been thinking I must try and find you both. In fact every time I look at the photograph of Edwin and your son in their dinner jackets when they came to the Lincoln Butchers Dinner Dance with me. How smart, handsome and dashing (I think are the words one would use) they both look, especially next to me. We lost contact when Edwin was Area President for the builders industry, I presume he just got too busy. Such a shame, it would be good to be in contact again, email me or perhaps turn up to the Speakers Club one night. There are still a few people that remember your attendance. Our thoughts are with you and the family. - Martin

What can I say?

Words cannot begin to express what Eddie meant to me and my family.

Love..in action is what he represented.
Another big brother and friend. A supporter. A guide. Reliable. Honest. Educated. A family man. Someone who supported and strived to improve his community.

Faith, hope and love are all qualities that we all hunger for. Love being the quality that perhaps rings the loudest bell in all of us..and at times the most difficult to uphold.
Eddie demonstrated Love! He will never leave my consciousness or my conversation!

Jen, Kala and Aiesha we will be here for you as the days draw longer and time moves forward.

"Servant of God, well done!
Rest from thy loved employ;
The battle fought, the victory won,
Enter thy master’s joy."

The voice at midnight came,
He started up to hear;
A mortal arrow pierced his frame;
He fell, but felt no fear.

His sword was in his hand,
Still warm with recent fight,
Ready that moment, at command,
Through rock and steel to smite.

Bent on such glorious toils,
The world to him was loss,
Yet all his trophies, all his spoils,
He hung upon the cross.

At midnight came the cry,
"To meet thy God prepare!"
He woke and caught his Captain's eye,
Then strong in faith and prayer.

His spirit with a bound,
Left its encumbering clay;
His tent at sunrise on the ground,
A darkened ruin lay.

The pains of death are past,
Labor and sorrow cease;
And life’s long warfare closed at last,
His soul is found in peace.

Soldier of Christ, well done!
Praise be thy new employ;
And while eternal ages run
Rest in thy Savior’s joy.
James Montgomery
