Edgar Rahman was born on 5th March 1944 in Salisbury, Rhodesia to Joseph and Chrissie Rahman. He had 7 siblings; Stella, Asia, Kass, Nella, Haziz, Haj and Warwick

Edgar struggled with his studies and left school before he progressed to High School, albeit he was an extremely hardworking individual who was always eager to learn new skills.

Edgar’s father was a mechanic and he too enjoyed assisting his dad fixing vehicles.

As he grew up, he left the family home in Sinoia and returned to Salisbury where he secured a job with Portland Cement, changing truck tyres.

He then moved into their servicing department whilst at the same time learning to fit gearboxes and then onto engines, which eventually became his joy.

He met his wife Margaret during his time at Portland Cement and together they went on to have 7 children; Philandra, Quinton, Bradley, Jude, Miranda, and the twins Romany and Rhonda.

Edgar then joined Swift Transportation to become Service Manager, still working with engines. He then progressed to become Workshop Manager at Stuttafords.

He attended Polytechnic college where his wife Margie, assisted him with his studies and countless form filling whenever required. He fondly referred to her as his Managing and Damaging Director.

Edgar went on to achieve an NIC qualification in Motor Mechanics and became fully qualified, an achievement in which he was very proud of.

He progressed rapidly in his career, going on to secure several reputable Senior Management positions as he became extremely proficient in all things mechanical.

Notably, his last employment was with Mazowe Rural Council working on graders and front-end loaders.

Edgar met a certain Mr Peter Whitehead who presented him with the opportunity to run his own workshop at Glendale Service Station. He became very successful here and soon bought the workshop complete with service station and house next door.

Edgar was a hard task master but managed to successfully teach his three sons the mechanical trade.

In 1988, Edgar and Margie bought Reveille Farm in Glendale from their good friend, Alistair Guy Waterhouse however, due to political changes in Zimbabwe it became necessary for them to sell their beloved farm in 1997 and move to Mount Pleasant in Harare.

After some time, Edgar made the decision to eventually also sell the service station in Glendale because the daily 60km commute was no longer viable.

It was not long after their move to Harare when, in 1999, Edgar became unwell with what doctors said was due to, "Shingles that did not fully break out".

This affected Edgar terribly and gradually over many years and, during these years, he became bed bound right up to the end of his life.

Edgar and Margie permanently relocated to the UK in 2015 to be closer to all of their children.

Sadly, Edgar passed away from a heart attack he suffered in the very early hours of Tuesday, 6th June 2023, unfortunately having never had the chance of ever recovering from his painful condition.

Edgar Rahman was a very much loved and wonderful man until the very end and will be sorely missed by everyone he has left behind.

Edgar, I'm finding it hard to find the words as it's so hard to believe you're no longer here, heartbroken is an understatement. You had endured so much pain for so long, I remember saying to Landra not so long ago "that man is as tough as nails, he'll be here for another 20 years". It's hard to sum up such a good man, especially a man I've known for nearly 27 years and had as a 2nd father nearly as long. It's not only the years but the good influence you had and the path you showed. Most don't know but the most important conversation I had in my life, was with you. It was the day I called to ask for your permission to marry Landra. Thankfully you gave me your blessing and welcomed me to the family, 26 years together and 23 married, we're still as happy as ever, thank you. When we first met in Zimbabwe in 2000, you took us on the trip of a lifetime around Zim giving your time, laughter despite your pain, kindness and hospitality-I'll always appreciate it and will never forget that trip. I remember, your face lit up every time you recalled with fondness how hard you laughed on that trip, especially with Stella (RIP). Eish we had a fair few drops (Castle not Bollinger😂) and laughs on that trip😂. You worked so hard all your life from a young age, made a successful career, had businesses and owned properties you rarely see the like of in the UK. But most important to you was your family, the love you showed them and the great life you provided for them was a lesson for us all. On Friday just gone, you would have been be so proud, though brokenhearted, they gave you a fitting send off for a beautiful life well lived. The life lessons you gave us won't be forgotten either - to always greet(I learnt that one the hard way😉), to work hard, to be humble, to lead a good honest life, never tell a lie, to make peace, that there's nothing as important as family(and so many more). I'll miss the chats about football, Liverpool FC, cars (you always loved Mercedes), engines (which I knew nothing about😂), "Mark, never mind the electronics an engine is an engine"😂, westerns and the thousands you had watched over the years and still watched them daily😂, action movies, The News, Politics, Judge Judy😂, the times you would send me downstairs to make myself a cup of tea when you were tired and in pain coz I was talking too much😂. The thing I most treasured was when we visited and just before we left you'd always say "Mark, you're a good man", that always got me and hopefully it meant I was doing a good job in your eyes. Edgar, thank you for everything, our lives and this world have been better for having had you in it. We'll miss you so much and we'll keep living the good life they way you taught us. Your suffering is no more, Rest in Peace Edgar, love Mark.

My heart will never heal. My mind will never forget. Your body is gone but your soul will stay with me for the rest of my days. You were my guidance my strength my happiness through everything you have been there.
There will be no more phone calls but I will speak to you everyday.
There will be no more laughter between us but I will smile with you everyday.
There will be no more good night dad but I will dream of you every night.
There will be no more pain but my heart will hurt for you every day.
There will be no more worry of how you are feeling today but I will be comforted to know that you are resting in peace.
There will be no more good morning dad but I will see you everyday
There will be no more bye dad love you
But I will never be without you
In times of darkness and sorrow I will look up to the stars and find you shining bright upon us.
God has taken you home my beautiful father.
I promise I’ll always be there to look after my beautiful mummy that I love so much.
I Love you dad.

My dear uncle, you are gone yet will never be forgotten, and will forever be in my heart. It always seems like we have all the time in the world. But we don't. I remember your two sayings, "one throw straight" refering to travelling. That there would be no stops on the journey. Also "you are walking smarter than charter with Bata". Unfortunately, the price you pay for having a great-uncle is you get the beautiful memories, the joy, the moments and the laughter– but sadly you get the tears at the end, too. Treasured in my heart, you'll stay, until we meet someday again. Goodbye for now my uncle.
