Very sad indeed to hear of Nan’s passing. She was a great community initiator and achieved a great deal in supporting and helping the people of Bargeddie I know. Deepest sympathies to her family and friends at this time.

Nan was born on 17 January 1958. The second child, after her brother James, and first daughter to Patsy and Rita Patton. In the following years Nan was joined by two sisters, Rita and Tricia, and two brothers, Andrew and Peter.
Like her siblings Nan was first raised in Uddingston, going to St Johns the Baptist Primary school. During this time she met and made friends with many people who remained important to her throughout her life.
Nan went to Elmwood Convent School where she excelled in her studies achieving passes at O and A Level which enabled her to move into a position with the NHS Health Board in Glasgow where she remained for many years as she steadily rose through the ranks to important positions.
Nan was also heavily involved in the Cub and Scout movement organising several adventures into the Scottish landscape. Her personality and care helped developed many young minds. It was in the Scouts that Nan met her future husband Harry and the family recalls with love and affection the many happy Christmas’s that they organised over the years at their house in Blackwood for the children of the family of all ages. It was not uncommon for more than twenty people to be sat at the table on Christmas day to watch four children enjoy the Christmas that Nan and Harry had organised for them. A testament to Nan’s organisational as well as culinary skills.
Nan moved to Hamilton about ten years ago where she took up a position as Community Centre Manager for The Safety Zone. A position she held until her passing. Nan was very happy during this period. Especially after her niece came to live with her whilst attending Glasgow University and when Nan’s nephew joined her niece, in a flat nearby, where they able to assist Nan during her bouts of ill health. Despite her ill health, she lead them on a number of adventures in the local area and Highlands. Nan loved the outdoors and was always determined to go out and enjoy a good day – rain or sunshine Nan brought laughter and humour to any outing.
Nan bravely faced her illness with stoicism and humour even on her last day and her passing will leave a huge void in the lives of all those who were privileged to know her whether as a relative or friend.
