This page has been created in loving memory of Clare Rachel Fowler who died on Sunday April 30th 2023, at the age of 43.

We are struggling to express our feelings at the moment - we are shell shocked by losing our treasured Clare. She was incredible: kind, generous, fiercely intelligent, determined and brave; she was an absolute life force. She faced the unthinkable with grace, humour and a dogged determination to squeeze all she could out of the time she had and love us all as much as she could.

She fought incredibly hard to stay here and challenged her doctors to push the limits of medical science. Even when Clare was in the middle of gruelling treatments her kindness shone through as she supported others who were struggling with similar challenges and campaigned to improve treatment options for those that will face the same diagnosis in future.

Clare was a wonderful person: a wife, a daughter, sister, aunty and friend to many and my goodness she was an incredible mother to her three children. We are all heartbroken and it’s going to take time to get our heads around losing her.

Clare - we love you. Right now, we are not quite sure how to move forward but we promise to love and care for the children with all our hearts and we will work hard to make you proud. You taught us that life is short so live in the moment and seize every opportunity that life offers.

Gosh, what a lot of lovely messages. I didn't know Clare, but I worked with her mum, Emily, for many years. This must be devastating for her and Bob.

I met Clare at university. We lived on the same corridor in our first year and shared a flat in our second year. I have many happy memories of the time we spent together, with lots of singing, dancing, partying and fun.

I last saw Clare in December, when we met up for a chat and warming drinks in a local beer garden. It was really lovely to see her, and she seemed so strong, in spite of her illness. Her bravery, and the way she was managing everything, fighting so hard, and staying so positive was inspirational. It was clear how proud she was of her family, and how much she loved them.

My thoughts are with Dave, Sammy, Abi and Flo, and Clare's wider family. Sending all my love and best wishes. xxx

Thank you for setting up this page. I was on holiday when funeral took place, and so it’s great to have a space to leave condolences, share memories and read and reflect on other people’s heartfelt and beautiful messages.

Like many, I’ll remember Clare fondly as someone clever, someone kind and someone that when you look back on your career that you’ll feel lucky you got to work and learn from.

Despite not working with Clare directly for the past few years, I’ve often found myself thinking what would Clare think of an idea I came up with or something I wrote. How would she view it? Where would she spot the gaps? I have no doubt I’ll continue to think this way, because Clare made everything she work on, and those she worked with, better.

If you wanted something to be the best it could be, you’d ask Clare. She wouldn’t hide away from telling you what she thought or from giving challenging feedback, but she had a skill in not making you feel personally challenged when you received it. It always felt positive. And always came from a place of support. That’s a very special skill. One that you admire in the best of colleagues (and people). And one that will be sorely missed by many.

Sending all my positive thoughts to Clare’s family, who she’d speak about often and clearly loved dearly. I can’t begin to imagine what you’ve been feeling over the last few weeks, but as the rawness subsides (and it will) I hope that reading the positive memories and messages that others have shared will bring a much needed smile, and confidence and hope in knowing that despite losing her too soon, her positive impact on those she knew will live on for a long time to come.

Today is Clare’s birthday, a date noted in my private diary, because whilst Clare was constantly zooming in for me on the small but important things -like team member birthdays - as well as zooming out on the big picture issues, I couldn’t expect her to remind me of her own birthday; and she was too self effacing to do so. Clare was a constant for most of my time leading Deloitte. She made the complex simple, she navigated cultural differences with sensitivity, she created an esprit de court amongst the wider team. She did it all with a real energy but no fuss, always thinking of the impact of decisions on others, working to build consensus where necessary.

When new people met Clare they would often comment on her fierce intellect, her practical no nonsense approach to any task, her focus on the job in hand all of which were true. But then as they got to know her they’d learn of her quirky sense of fun- anyone want an Executive meeting in the Lego Innovation Centre in Denmark?; her pride and joy in Sammy, Abi and Flo as they grew up and her love for Dave; her conviction that doing the right thing wasn’t just a slogan, her willingness to call out behaviour she saw that wasn’t right and her confidence to tell me when she thought I’d got something wrong.

Clare was simply a good person in every way and she is greatly missed.

It's only in the last few weeks that I have realised the extent to which Clare has been such a wonderful constant in my life for such a long time: a colleague in Strategy, an ally in the Exec group and a great friend in our much loved corner of South East London.
I feel privileged to have been even a small part of Clare's world – pacing the local streets together, tea in hand, putting the world to rights. Clare would always turn up with a smile on her face and a spring in her step - ready to listen to my grumbles (which were always miniscule compared to her own battles) and offer sanguine advice.
Clare's no nonsense, positivity over the last few years has been truly inspirational. Not wanting her treatment to make her miss out of last year's festivities, we managed to sneak in a Christmas lunch together - in a pub garden, in the snow, huddled under heaters with non-alcoholic cocktails and everyone looking at us like we were slightly nuts. I will always treasure this memory and use it as a remind that whatever life is throwing at you there is still fun to be had – you just might need to be a bit more creative to find it.

Dave, Sammy, Abi, Flo – I cannot imagine the loss you are feeling right now. I have no doubt that you have endless happy memories of Clare and hope that, despite everything, these can bring a smile to your face in the coming days, weeks and months, and help you through these unimaginably hard times. My thoughts are with you all. xxx
