Sadly our lovely Mum Maria Agatha Croucher passed away on the 1st May 2023 peacefully in her beloved home with her daughters Nicola & Alex by her side.
For all of those who knew our Mum she was an inspirational courageous, lovely, kind, strong, resilient and beautiful woman.
She was born in Portside Egypt in 1947 as her parents Katherine and Anthony were there in the war years.
They came to the UK when she was 4 along with her big brother Harry and they all settled in Hackney. She then gained another brother and sister, Freddie and Janet.
Family was everything to Mum and coming to the UK with nothing gave her an inspirational appreciation for the things that really mattered in life.
In her early twenties Mum's stories were filled with fun, dancing, 60’s music and working in the holiday camps with her friends. She loved to dance and have a laugh.
Whilst growing up in Hackney she met our gorgeous Dad Peter through one of his sisters and their fun, light sparkly personalities clicked immediately. They were married and moved out of London to Canvey Island to be by the sea and raise Alex and I.
Mum loved the sea, she always said her best memories were down at the beach.
Sadly our wonderful Dad passed away when he was 42, this was devastating for us all, yet our strong, protective and beautiful Mum dealt with bringing up two teenage girls by herself, despite the agonising pain of losing her husband and love so young. Mum's strong Hackney spirit, tenacity, fortitude and Grace kept us all going and we will be forever grateful.
Even though Mum had many challenges to overcome she always met life with a laugh and her infectious smile lit up a room, this remained with her right till the end, she never complained, even though she must have been suffering, the nurses, carers and everyone she came in contact with were lightened by her fun and generous spirit. Her grace and light, courage and resilience is an inspiration for us all and lives on through Alex and Nicola and her beloved Grandson Hunter who brought her so much joy especially in her last few months
Every time we look out to to sea this is where we will find Maria, our Mum, it was always her happy place and where she would like to be remembered.
