In loving memory of Peter Ainley who sadly passed away on 6th May 2023.

Peter was born on the 6th April 1942 and was the son of Norman and Nora Ainley, brother to John Ainley and Lynda Bamforth. He lived at Bolster Moor all his life, working on the poultry farm the family had, then at David Browns then working for himself as a jack of all trades, there was nothing he could not do.

He met Wendy Townend and they started a life together. He built a house at Bolster Moor and there they raised their two children Robert and Lindsay.

Peter was always a hard working man and always busy but found the time to spend with the people he loved the most, his family and friends. He had plenty of hobbies, but crown green bowling was his favourite.

He was as fit as a fiddle until melanoma cancer caught up with him and even through the treatment of that he was still walking for miles, but sadly early 2023 the cancer was back and from late February it took hold of him and he deteriorated very quickly. He had stays in hospital but he was adamant that he wasn't staying there and got his wish to end his days at Meadow Court Care Home, (thanks to Ian, Anne, Stacey, Stephen and Darren) where he lasted just over a week, but received the most loving care from all the staff there that he could possibly have wanted.

His family were around him when he passed as peacefully as can be expected at the grand age of 81 years and 1 month to the day.

Peter will be sadly missed by all his family, especially his wife Wendy, his son Robert and wife Lynne, his daughter Lindsay and husband Andrew, and his grandchildren, James, Charly, Ashton and Hayden.

He wanted any donations to be passed to cancer research.

So sorry to hear of Peters passing and sending love to you all at this time. Laurie and Dries especially remember Peters enthusiastic and thoughtful encouragement as they learnt the art of crown green bowling at Golcar Liberal Club. Another small way Peter’s legacy lives on as the boys bowling journey continues. Thanks Peter, you’ll be missed.
