Just read of the passing of Richard , who I had the pleasure of working with , for many years , at W Stevenson Belper Ltd .

I moved away to Yorkshire 4 years ago following the death of my own mother in Belper, and started a new life near to my wife’s family in Great Ayton N.Yorkshire. I was so sorry to hear of Richards passing, and often thought about the old gang at W. Stevenson’s. My heartfelt sympathies go to his family and friends ,and would like to say it was a privilege to know Richard . Over the years I have often thought about Richard , and if he was still working at Thorntons, and knew he would keep going as long as he could. I can only say he was a loyal worker, good friend, and was an honour to have had known him over the many years. God bless Richard ,thanks for the memories Graham and Pam

Yesterday we said goodbye to Richard at a service that was beautiful and emotional. It must have been so difficult to put the photo montage together but hopefully in time it will be there for you all to view and take comfort from

I have known Richard as a client and I hope friend for so many years - my annual visit to the house was always filled with laughter (apart from when I backed into Karen’s car 🤦‍♀️). Such a devoted family that very much enjoyed taking the mick out of each other, it was a pleasure to witness. Thanks to Richard for my annual box of chocs (Thornton’s of course) and to Karen for persevering with those books over the years !

Paul knew Richard on a more social level - (ie from drinking with him in The Packet) I know he enjoyed his conversations and banter with Richard over the years and that he will miss his company

We both send our heartfelt condolences to Carol , Karen, Evie and Stef and hope that the lovely service yesterday helps to start the healing process just a little for you all

RIP Richard

Much love

Paul and Debbie Hopkinson

RIP Richard (Dick) I have known Dick for a number of years & found him to be one of the kindest, helpfull people you could wish to meet.Very dry sense of humour so laid back he was almost horizontal.
He was one of those people who you looked forward to meeting as you knew he was going to brighten up your day.

I’ve known Richard (Dick) for over fifty years, twenty six of them I worked with him on various plumbing and heating jobs, there was never a dull moment.
He had a very dry sense of humour as I found out on many occasions.
Non more so than when me and Bolty went to see him in hospital and all the time we were there he was asleep (or was he) Karen text me that night she told Dick we had been,he told her tell them it’s no good coming when I’m asleep.
Richard will be sadly missed by all who new him.
