In loving memory of COSTAKIS (COSTA) IOANNOU who sadly passed away on 27th September 2015

Costa Ioannou was a man of extraordinary individuality, his life was one of a succession of transient passions. He was a true eccentric with a mischievous sense of humour.

Costa was the eldest of two brothers, born in Kato Platres, Cyprus. He attended the Mitsis Boarding School in Cyprus and at age of 18 he left to travel to UK in 1958 to study electronic engineering armed only with his portable typewriter.

He was a dynamic individual, with an enquiring mind who was able to turn his hand to anything.

At various times during his life he worked in telecommunications, was a truck driver, an ice cream salesman, an International haulage contractor, a shop retailer – whatever he chose to do - he gave it 100% of his time and energy

He loved driving exploring new places, meeting new people, many of whom became life-long friends.

He was a true motoring enthusiast often driving to and from Southern Italy in under 24 hours with his latest purchase and up until last month was planning his next trip across the Alps.

He was very resourceful and someone you could always count on to give advice and his personal generosity was always extended to family, friends and strangers alike.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Rip.

Dear Jovanna, Marilena and Silvana,

A lovely Service was held for Costa attended by family and friends all of whom loved him and respected him. All, no doubt have enjoyed knowing him, will miss him and will support you should the need arise.

Our thoughts are with you:

If tears could build a stairway
and thoughts a memory lane
We would walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again
No Farewell words were spoken
No time to say good-bye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why.
Our hearts are still active in sadness
and secret tears still flow
what it meant to lose you
No one can ever know.
But now we know you want us
to mourn for you no more
to remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store.
Since you’ll never be forgotten
we pledge to you today
a hallowed place within our hearts
is where you’ll always stay.
God knows why, with chilling touch,
Death gathers those we love so much,
And what now seems so strange and dim,
Will all be clear, when we meet Him.

God bless.

Dearest Costa. " what a wonderful and caring man. A fantastic dad and treasured dad to Silvana and Marilena. " .I always had many a laugh with u. Your daughters have inherited your fantastic sense of humour. The intelligence side obviously after me......oh yeah we are not related. Worth a try. Bless you Costa. And may God give them the strength to get through this very difficult time. But knowing that memories of all the happy days u shared together will live on forever and ever on the lips that always talk about u. Till we meet again . P.S. say ciao to papa Antonio from us. Xxx

We had known Costa for over 50 years, just a few years after he arrived in the UK. We have seen his family double with the arrival of two lovely children and watched them grow up from babies to intelligent and sensible adults. Costa adored his family and worked very hard to ensure they had everything they wanted including provision for his children’s University Education and when they graduated he was very proud.
Costa was a ‘happy go lucky’ person and a character, often showing a laid back and couldn’t careless attitude but, in fact, he was very talented and you would be hard pressed to get one over on him. Having said that, he was very caring and would go out of his way to help anybody should the need arise. He was a generous man and would not take any payment or reimbursement for any help given, a simple thank you is all he wanted.
We have spent many a good time together both as individuals and as families and it is these times that you remember most. The good times of knocking walls down in his parents’ home to travelling around the UK and Spain delivering Goods when he was running his own International Haulage business. There was one particular time when we left the UK on Boxing Day, bound for Spain. Our Hotel was the lorry cab but, we had a good time welcoming the New Year in. We had to wait until the Factories reopened after the Xmas holiday to unload the goods and get a return load back to the UK. It seemed to be a long haul but, we had a good time and often talked about it.
Costa would always come and see us when he visited the UK and would always bring little mementoes, demonstrating his caring nature, his kindness and his generosity. Nobody could ever wish for such a dedicated friend and we shall miss him so much. We have so many memories of the many good times that we had it would fill a book.
Now he has gone to heaven and in God’s care but, we will always love him and never forget him.
R.I.P. Costa.
