Evelyn was born on 26th February 1937 at 6, Liberty Place, Bridgwater to parents Edith & Arthur. Evelyn’s early education was provided by Eastover School, followed by secondary education at Westover School. After leaving school Evelyn started work at Boot’s the chemist in Bridgwater.

In the late 1950’s Evelyn met Mervyn and were married in September 1961, being one of the first couples to be married at St. Francis of Assisi, Bridgwater.

After marriage, Evelyn gave up full time employment to work part time in a news agent shop on Bath Road as well as becoming a housewife. In addition to those roles, she also took care of her own mother as well as brothers Don & Sam.

Evelyn helped within St. Francis church community initially as a Sunday School teacher, then a number of years later she formed the Young Wives group on request of Father Gill. After a number of years again, she returned to Sunday School teaching. Evelyn also served as a Parochial Church Council member and for many years she made and put the Easter Garden together each year. Evelyn also used to help with the Saxon Green playgroup in St. Francis church hall assisting in a small way on an administrative basis.

Evelyn was interested in her own children's education and other children too as she was a school governor and often listened to children read.

She is greatly missed by all of her family, from husband Mervyn, children, Martin (& wife Heather), Nick and Donna to granddaughters Lucy (& fiancé Dave) and Ruby.

Thank you mum for all you did for us. You will be missed and we miss you.

The souls of the righteous are in the hands of God. No torment shall ever touch them. In the eyes of the unwise they appear to die. Their going look like disaster, their leaving us like annihilation. But they are in peace. (Wisdom 3: 1-3)

Rest well. Farewell until we meet again. x
