In loving memory of our mum Beatrice McKiernan who passed away on 19th March 2023.
Mum was born and bred in Nottingham and was always proud about coming from West Bridgford. She had a very happy upbringing with her parents and siblings, with whom she was very close. She was the youngest child, and the last one to die.
She met our dad Tom after they had been penpals while Dad was serving in the Korean war, and were soon engaged and embarking on married life in the British army. They had us 6 children, Martin, Kevin, Louise, Dominic, Peter and Philip. Mum and dad returned to Nottingham when Tom left the army in the 1960's and there they stayed.
Mum returned to her great love of singing, both in the church choir and in The West Bridgford Operatic Society. She was also a member of The Catholic Women's League for many, many years, putting her faith in to action.
When our dad died in 2003 she was left alone, but her strong faith and her love for us, and our love for her, consoled and supported her. She remained in the family home (with support from lovely carers), where we were brought up with so much love, security and laughter, until a few months before her death.
Dementia robbed her of some of the mother we remembered, but she still knew and loved us in her own way. She still sang and danced at every opportunity and we just adored her. She died peacefully in Gedling Village care home. Quietly and without a fuss. Just as she would have liked.
