Nan G was an inspiration to everyone who knew her, independent, hard working, dedicated and totally devoted to her family. Nan was always there, nothing was a problem. She taught me a lot, she helped me figure things out, she would always listen and support us 100%. I would often think of Nan when times get tough… I think what would Nan say? What would she do?
Nan saw a different world to the one we live in today. Without doubt she will have had times of hardship that our generation would never understand or relate to but Nan had some great values:
- She wouldn’t tolerate laziness
- If you wanted something you work for it
- Always present your home and yourself immaculately.
- Be good a maths! (And you’d better be good)
…and finally to never miss Strictly come dancing or match of the day. Ha ha.
Nan would walk further at 90 years old than we do collectively now. Nan would often be seen walking into town on a daily basis. She would always mind her own business and keep herself to herself but she was well known in Stapenhill and highly respected. Being the winner of “garden of the year” year after year brought a lot of attention and fame.
She kept her house and garden immaculate and she presented herself beautifully everyday regardless of what she had planned.
Nan was from the old days and lived her life without tech albeit until we bought her an i-phone and installed ’what’s app’ and set her up on the family group! You’d better think about what you were putting in the group because Nan G’s quick, to the point and ruthless responses would soon let you know who the pack leader is! Lol.
I have half a lifetime of fond memories and I could go on forever...
Nan you meant everything to all of us and if we turn out half the person you were then we’ll do just fine. Sleep tight Nanny we all love you. Whatever the afterlife holds, I hope you find peace with Grandad.
Big Love
Luke, Lyndsey, Annie & Alfie.
