Margaret The Donkey Sanctuary
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Margaret Jones who sadly passed away on 19th March 2023, aged 92 years.
Margaret was beloved mother to us, her daughter’s Cathy, Jenny and partners, Nanny to her grandchildren and Nanny Mar Mar to her great grandchildren. She was an incredible lady and we love her very much. We are grateful to have received many messages of condolence from family and friends; all of which state what a lovely lady she was.
Margaret lived a full and fruitful life. She had many hobbies including reading several library books a week, knitting and crochet. She attended social events including tea dances and outings. She was also a member of the St, Helena’s Guild for many years where she contributed to fundraising and charitable events. She kept her faith throughout her life, attending St. Barbara’s Garrison church regularly, until it became too difficult to do so. She also loved being with her family; being a large family, we have a lot of get togethers, she was always very interested in catching up on all of the gossip. She was keen on crosswords and kept up to date on world affairs. She was intelligent, vibrant and fun.
Margaret coped incredibly well during periods of adversity, including having breast cancer twice and coping with visual impairment due to macular degeneration. She was incredible and adapted her favourite activities to large print books and a magnifier whilst sticking to knitting squares instead of complex patterns. Listening to the radio has always been a preference to the television for mum.
In 2020, mum was diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s, however she was able to remain at home with the family until last August when she moved to Charing House Care Home in Gillingham. She was cared for very well, the staff not only cared for mum but supported us too. We have been able to spend time with our lovely mum, who has always been polite, kind, gentle and loving throughout her final years.
We are very lucky to have had mum in our lives for so many years, she has been wonderful to us all.
We have requested that donations are made in lieu of flowers in memory of Margaret. Although she supported many charities, she was especially fond of the Donkey Sanctuary and she was really happy that she had been able to visit the sanctuary in Devon herself to see the impressive work that is taking place there. It seems only fitting that the Donkey Sanctuary is chosen in her memory.
Many thanks,
Cathy and Jenny,
Margaret’s daughters.
