In loving memory of Mark Glover who sadly died on 2nd March 2023.
Mark was born in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands where he grew up with loving parents Sue and Pete Glover and his brother Paul. He attended Bishop Vesey's Grammar School and went on to study medicine at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, graduating in 2003. After working at Addenbrooke's and Bedford Hospitals he joined the medical SHO rotation at Queens Medical Centre Nottingham in August 2004.
Mark met his husband, Adam who also joined the QMC rotation in August 2005. Mark returned to Cambridge to complete his PhD between 2006 and 2009. Mark and Adam formed a civil partnership in August 2009. They both returned to Nottingham in 2010 to complete post-graduate medical training and for Mark to take up an associate professorship/lecturer post at the University of Nottingham. He was awarded an MRC Clinician Scientist award to continue his post-doctoral research work leading to several high-impact publications in hypertension genetics and the investigation of the underlying causes of thiazide-induced hyponatraemia.
Mark was the lead clinician for the NUH hypertension clinic providing services to patients across the East Midlands and supporting his colleagues at NUH with in-patient advice and management. He was an active member of NICE technology appraisal committee B and also worked on the pharmacovigilance committee of the MHRA. He was an active member of the NICE Hypertension and Lipid guidelines group. Mark had long been an active member of the British and Irish Hypertension Society, recently serving on the executive comittee.
Mark loved to travel for both work and pleasure and actively participated in a number of international meetings through the Asia-Pacific and International Societies of Hypertension. He was an active member of the Nottingham Leander swimming club and also took great pride in the decoration of his home and care of the garden.
He is survived by husband Adam, parents Sue and Pete, brother and sister-in law Paul and Kim and nephew and niece Mathieu and Aurelie.
