In Loving Memory of Anne Elizabeth Ellen Buckley: A Life Well-Lived

Anne Elizabeth Ellen Buckley was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who passed away on 18th February 2023 at the age of 71. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Born on 25th December 1951 in the Meadows, Nottingham, Anne grew up in a loving family and was known for her kindness, compassion, and strong sense of loyalty. After completing her education at Arkwright School, Anne started working as a machinist in the Lace Market before moving to nearby firm Simon & May in 1969 where she stayed until 1984. For the next 24 years, she worked as a self-employed machinist until 2008.

In 1973, Anne met Barry, who she eventually married after being set up by her co-worker, Kath Woodward. The two of them went on to raise two children together in Aspley, Nottingham. Anne was a devoted wife and mother, always putting her family first and making sure they knew how much they were loved.

After marrying Barry at the Nottingham registry office on 5th September 1981, Anne settled down as a housewife in Aspley. She gave birth to William Paul Buckley on 28th August 1984 and three years later, she welcomed her second son Christopher James Buckley on 18th May 1987.

Throughout her life, Anne was known for her warm smile, infectious laugh, and generous spirit. She was a loyal friend to many, always there with a listening ear and a helping hand when needed. She had a special talent for making everyone feel valued and loved, regardless of their background or circumstances.

In her free time, Anne enjoyed gardening, baking, knitting, and craftwork, as well as spending time with her grandchildren. She was a gifted cook and baker, always eager to share her delicious recipes and homemade treats with others. She was also an avid walker and loved to spend quiet afternoons exploring the countryside in her younger days.

Despite facing some health challenges in her later years, Anne never lost her positive attitude or her faith in family. She continued to inspire those around her with her strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit.

Anne is survived by her husband Barry, her children William and Christopher, and her grandchildren Jake, Ellie, Harry, Ava, and Luna. She will be reunited with her father Raymond, mother Violet, sister Jean, and stillborn grandchild Chloe. Anne will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched and the legacy of love and kindness she leaves behind.

Thank you for being the best Mum I could ever have wished for. Growing up you were always there when I needed you. Sadly as time wore on I ended up looking after you more, but that time I cherish so much. It still feels strange not having my phone ringing with your face showing at the very moment I was doing something (a talent you always found hilarious).

You were the very best Grandma in the world. Harry gladly got to spend 13 years winding you up and knowing you were always there for a cuddle. He has handled this like the little man he is becoming, and so proud to be your Grandson.

Thankfully Luna got nearly 2 and a half years of Nanna. Even though it took her sometime to warm up to you (given she was a covid baby and we had to distance in her first months) you became thick as theives...every Monday her bypassing Grandad to get to her "Gommar." Knowing full well you would let her get away with anything; like all of your Grandkids. It has now become a running joke when she's causing mischief for one of us to utter your defence "oh leave her. Shes only a baby!"

I'm so glad we have these memories. I'm just sad we don't have more photos given you knew I hate having my picture taken.

But we know proudly in our hearts that you will forever be with us. And no doubt you will be back with Grandad and Jean. Catching them up on what they have missed. All while keeping a good eye on us all.

when i first met anne (granny pie), she was just text on a screen inside a forum that welcomed me into the fold like i had know her all my life. i have a lot of respect for granny pie and barry (super ram). i will miss granny joking and how she would tell me to call her by her first name. to me she will always be granny pie but i am thankful for knowing anne outside of notts county. i have not met a more wonderful lady, that cared more about me than she many others. i hope she has her walking sticks in heaven, if she does not need them. it would be nice to know granny pie is keeping everyone on their toes. thank you for being a friend, anne.
