Stan Hill passed away peacefully at home on Saturday 4th March 2023 aged 82, after a short but intense struggle with cancer.... to the end displaying his thirst for knowledge and his desire to find out about life and the facts and faith that drive it.

He was a very very loved man - not just by Meg, his wife; his 3 children - Andrew, Simon and Becky; his daughters-in-law, Sarah and Jack, and his Grandchildren: Charlie, Georgie, Johnny, Emily, Sam and Ben - but also by pretty much anyone he had come into contact with over his life. We lost count of the number of messages that came in saying what a special person, an inspiration and just a great man he was.

He will, as a friend said, 'leave a very big gap in our lives'.

He touched a great many people over the years with his humility, intelligence, grace, a deep desire for knowledge and interest in the world around him. But, above all, he'll be remembered for his understanding, care and sheer kindness he showed for other people.

At the end of his life, this kindness was re-paid with care around the clock for a husband, father, friend that had given us so much. But we could not have done it without the help of the teams at Bideford Medical Centre and the hospital, our live-in carer Jana, and the North Devon Hospice... so in memory of Stan and all that he gave to the world, we are collecting for North Devon Hospice - please see the link at the side (or below on mobile).

I have nothing but positive memories of Stan - a wonderful caring man who always had time and space for others. I will miss his sweet smile, infectious laugh and concerned frown.

So many happy memories of Christmas and
New Year with Stan, Meg,Andrew,Simon and Becky. Stan inspired me to be a GP and I was lucky enough to have spent some time during my medical student days with him. Stan also kindly walked up the aisle with me when I got married. Such a brilliant , compassionate man, loved by so many, he will be greatly missed. Love to Meg, Andrew,Simon and Becky who cared so wonderfully for Stan in his final months.

Stan being squashed by Becky. Meg, Andrew and Simon showing slightly more decorum. A clan gathering somewhere (Kingsbury?), apologies for the fashion.

Dear Meg and all the family
We are so sad that Stan has passed, he played such a huge part in our family history. We have so many memories of the Hill clan get togethers where he was always fun, kind and happy to join in whatever games/adventures we all got up to! Such a lovely man who we will all sorely miss but at the same time have a smile as those happy memories keep coming back. Love and peace to you all.

Philip, Amanda, Dannie and Adam Hill

Back then in the '50s Stan was a cheerful classmate. His smile was catching and I envied his popularity. Always surrounded by friends. I left the College in 1957 and only very occasionally met Stan & Meg over the next 60 years. Always a pleasure. 18 months ago and again last September my wife Elizabeth & I spent a few hours with, and fell in love with both of them. We looked forward to many more such times.
And now this!!!
Rest in Peace dear Stan!
Our love and prayers Meg, Andrew, Becky & Simon

I’ve never seen so many kind comments. A really special man, who I only knew for a short time but has made a huge impression on me.
