In loving memory of Roy Swan who sadly passed away on 23rd February 2023
Roy was born to Rose and Jim Swan in August, 1936 in Bow, London, the younger brother of Ken and elder brother of Doreen and Toni. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 65 years Pam, their two daughters Cheryl and Julie, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren including a step great grandson. Utterly devoted to each other and their family, Pam and Roy became known as The Darlings, as that was the only term they used for each other. Their happiest times were spent socialising with a large network of family and friends and watching their grandchildren and great grandchildren in their various activities.

In addition to his family, Roy's other passion was sports and during his National Service in Hong Kong he represented the Army in football and athletics winning many cups and medals. In his youth he played football for West Ham, Dagenham and latterly Southend United who he toured Europe with before his professional career was cut short by a stomach operation in his early 20's. All of his sporting life he either played football or refereed, becoming a much loved and highly respected figure in the local football community.

He touched so many lives in such a wonderful way. Always happy and making jokes he was a constant joy to be around and that is how we will remember him. Roy was a wonderfully colourful character both in his sense of fun and his dress sense and was known for his trademark colourful jumpers, beautifully, colour co-ordinated outfits and loud socks. Therefore, the family kindly request that we celebrate this diamond of a man by wearing his favourite bright colours to the funeral.

Please do notify of us if you intend attending the funeral so we can arrange catering. There will also be a live feed and recording if you are unable to be with us in person :-

We would appreciate family flowers only please but it would be wonderful if donations could be made on Roys behalf to a couple of local charities which were very close to his heart. The Aaron Lewis Foundation and Gold Geese.

Dad was the most wonderful soul, always happy, he never had a bad word to say about anyone nor they him. He was loved by everyone he came into contact with and he spread joy wherever he went. He made the world a better place on a daily basis, one person at a time. I will always strive to ‘be more Roy’ in his memory. We were so blessed to have him in our lives and we cherish every memory.

Hero's come in all shapes and sizes. Mine came in the form of my uncle Roy. Most people are lucky if they have one constant male influence in their life. I was lucky to have two. Forever in my heart. 💕💕

Roy was everything I could have wished for in a husband. Kind, considerate, thoughtful, placid and reliable. There are so many words I could use to describe him but relations, friends and people he met will all have seen for themselves what a very special man he was. Such a loving husband and father . I have been truly blessed to have been married to him for so many years. Rest in peace my darling..❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
