Dear Mr. Sabberton,
I would like to thank you for all the music advice, support and recognition you have gave me as a student of yours. I am honored and grateful for all the years that you have taught me, encouraged me, and inspired me with your love of music and you passion for spreading that love. Looking back at the events that you have organised, the music ensembles that I have been part of, I now know that music will be an important aspect of my life. Again, I can not thank you enough for being my music teacher, mentor, and I will always remember you as the humorous, generous, kind-hearted Mr. Sabberton.

Kind regards,
Alina Cai

Dear Mr Sabberton,

Thank you for guiding me through my musical journey. You were always my inspiration and your passing deeply saddens me and my family. We will make sure that your legacy will live on, and that your effort will make a difference.

I am so lucky to have been your student. I have learnt so many things from you, and I am so grateful for all of the opportunities you have given me. I miss every rehearsal at school, andante strings, allegro strings, quartet, breakfast busking, learning how to play the guitar and everything you have taught me. I would be miles away from where I am now without your patience and dedication towards music. The Music department in Dulwich and all the students were blessed to have you. Thank you for making a difference in all of our lives and attitude to music.

I just wanted to tell you that I am currently going through to the second round auditions of your previous music school, RAM. I really hope that I will be able to attend the academy as it will be filled with your memories and your influence.

We all hope that you will rest in eternal peace and that your name will live on. Thank you for all that you have done; the world of music was so privileged to have you be part of it.

Kind regards,
Angela

I was deeply saddened when you fell ill last year and was ever hopeful we would catch up just once more to laugh and talk about going on dates and olives. Your loss is a big one, felt by so many. Rest in Peace, Patrick; please know how much you were loved.

Patrick,

You always inspired me through music, I remember you mentioned Kodaly education to me a few years ago, incredible that I am doing all those stuff now. Wishing you and your family courage and peace during this time of mourning.

Patrick, we (the Shanghai music team and many more) all love you very much and sleep on now and take your rest!

The Oak Family are devastated to hear of Patrick’s passing and we offer our deepest condolences to his family.

Patrick was a wonderfully generous, gentle man and a larger than life character here in Shanghai. The place just is not the same without him. We have all missed his larger than life presence immensely in our lives since the day he fell ill. He is sorely missed by everyone who ever met him.

It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to have known Patrick and to have counted him among our best friends.

This past few months has been a difficult time for everyone concerned, not least Patrick himself, but we take some solace in the fact that he is now at peace.

Rest in peace, Mr Sabberton!
We love you!

All our love and best wishes,
Charlie, Michael, Jade and Jason Oak

Patrick, I feel honoured to have been counted among your many friends.

It was an honour to know you. I miss just hanging out with you and talking nonsense for hours on end.

It was an honour to play music with you. I learnt so much from you. I am especially grateful for the way you believed in me and pushed me to be a better musician.

I am similarly grateful for the way you encouraged and nurtured Charlie, too. He really looked up to you as a musician, as a mentor and as a friend. We are all so sad to see you go.

Rest in peace, mate.

Patrick you were one in a million. I loved a Friday morning when you would support the Primary busking sessions right outside my office. It really made my day.
