In loving memory of Sylvia Conrad who sadly passed away on 19th January 2023.
Sylvia Pharoah was born in February 1938 and grew up as part of a large family in Sunniside and nearby Marley Hill in County Durham. Her father flew in bombers in WW II and died in a crash in Lincolnshire in December 1942 before her younger sister Catherine was born. Both daughters moved south after marrying. Sylvia married Sydney Chaplin in 1960 and then Adrian Conrad in 1993. She loved singing and dancing and in particular learnt Scottish Country Dancing from an early age and continued it right through her life, teaching many classes and even dancing when on trips abroad. She also danced in demonstrations at Wembley when the Scots Guards were playing in the then annual Services' Musical Pageants. She was a fine seamstress and liked handicrafts especially knitting and crochet. She also enjoyed travelling around the world, visiting China, New Zealand, the Galapagos Islands, Canada and Alaska, and Antarctica. She had three children by her first marriage, Ian, Lindsey and Jill, and five fine granddaughters, who with Adrian all treasure her memory.
