In loving memory of Steve Petro who sadly passed away on 4th February 2023
Steve was born in Hungary on the 10th June 1939 to Agnes and Istvan Petro and was an only child.
Steve was a very talented gymnast and came second in the Russian Olympics. He hated the Russians and in 1956 he joined the Hungarian Uprising and eventually came to Scotland aged 18.
He married Ann and has two sons Steven and David. The marriage was dissolved.
He then joined the Kings Own Scottish Borderers and spent 24 years in the Army.
Steve was posted to Folkestone with the Regiment and he married again to Angela and had a daughter Amelia who is married to Mike and they have two sons Luis and Ali.
I met Steve in 1991 through working for British Gas when he used to come to collect our money. I had been divorced for 4 years and eventually our relationship developed and we got married in May, 1995.
When he left the Army he joined Securicor and worked for them for 15 years. Upon retirement he then worked as a Security Officer for UK Paper Club now The Appleyard until he was 72.
Unfortunately Steve has suffered from vascular dementia for the last 13 years and as time went on he became so aggressive and distressed that for the last 15 months he has been residing in Elvy Court Care Home here in Sittingbourne where he has received excellent care from all the staff. I cannot begin to thank them enough for the way they have looked after him under very challenging circumstances at times.
Steves funeral is on the 1st March at 12 noon at The Garden of England Crematorium, Bobbing, ME9 8GZ
Family flowers only. All donations to The Kings Own Scottish Borders to support their museum.
