In loving memory of Robert Murrell who sadly passed away on 28th January 2023.
His working life started on the family farm. At heart he was a mechanic and loved to fix things. He worked on buses, police cars, aircraft, and with diamond saws. For many years he was a Prudential Insurance Man. Although he was retired for 10 years he didn't stop working in his work shop building things, often for our grandsons.
He loved to travel, on cruise ships, in our caravan or by air further afield. China, India and Russia were visited before the pandemic. We managed a cruise around the British and Scottish isles in July 2022 with his sister and husband for company. 3000 steps a day and managed to join most of the trips ashore
He loved swimming and spent many hours in the sea and pools with the grandsons. Often swimming when we though it was too cold. He always said he couldn't cook but still managed to cook on the BBQ even if it was well done.
We have to blame Robert for the original interest in horses. He would ride anything including a pony that was mis behaving. He rode a stallion Konig for several years but I know Galaxy a 15.2 palomino was his favourite.
We started a business providing horse drawn carriages and traps for weddings. Many harrowing events occurred during that time, too many for this page but entertaining when told.
When we moved to Shopland Hall and opened the riding school Robert had stopped riding but our daughters took over and he repaired and rebuilt things we broke. He cut acres of grass on lawn mowers and tractors.
At the end his speech had deteriorated but his ability to text hadn't. I received reminders about batteries to charge, cars to be MOT or repaired and to pay the electricity bill. MND is such an unkind disease. taking the body while the brain is still working but fortunately not his sense of humour.
