Annie Shewring (19 Nov 1955 - 3 Jan 2023)
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Annie Shewring who sadly passed away on 3rd January 2023
Annette Nora McCartney was born on 19th November 1955, at Rochford Hospital Essex. A beautiful bouncing blonde- haired, blue- eyed baby girl weighing a healthy 8 pound +. She was the third child, and second daughter to Mabel and Bob McCartney of Shaftsbury Avenue, Southchurch. She was a younger half-sister to Stanley and Philp Friedlos, full sister to Heather and Iain and big sister to Jeannie, who was yet to come 4 years later. Mabel was a housewife, and Bob a Bombardier in the Royal Artillery
Anne (as she was called indoors) was a bonny and happy child, just before her 5th birthday she started school at Richmond Avenue Primary where she got on well. She had a nice group of friends, the closest probably being Cathy Martin and Tina Cudlip. These friendships endured into, and through, her secondary education at Shoeburyness High School. She was always called Annette by her friends.
When she left school Anne had a variety of jobs including in the office of Woodyatt Motors in Milton Road, Westcliff, which is now sadly a housing estate.
In February 1974 she married Alan Philpot in the Garrison Church Shoeburyness and the following October they had a beautiful son Colin; they bought a sweet little cottage in Little Wakering Road. Sadly, the marriage did not endure, and Anne was a single parent for a few years, with support from Alan. Then Anne met Clive Shewring, and they were married in Wickford in May 1985, they bought a lovely home in Wickford and the following May they had another beautiful son Billy.
After a few years Anne went on holiday with her mother to Malta and fell in love with the place. The sunshine and friendly people captivated her, and in 2001 they decided to move there permanently, and they have remained there since. She has loved living there; she became known as Annie which she much preferred, and she had some lovely friends. Sadly, due to an episode of serious bad health Annie has not been able to travel back to the UK for many years, she has been very much missed by her family. Her poor health continued and finally she fell asleep on 3rd January 2023, Clive and Billy were with her.
Annie was a loving, faithful wife, a caring daughter, mother and grandmother as well as a loyal and devoted friend. Life brought her ups and downs, but she fought through and made it to a place where she was settled and happy and with the people that she loved. She will be greatly missed by many, and fondly remembered by many more.
