In loving memory of Leonard William Frederick Boorman who sadly passed away on 31st December 2022, aged 79 years.
Leaving his wife, Carol; daughters, Karen and Kerry; son, Steven and grandchildren Lewis and Erin.
Len/Lenny/Little Len - a practical, warm, funny and selfless man, starting out working as a shipwright in the Chatham Dockyard, then working alongside his brother-in-law fitting out partitioning and office spaces across all of London. He moved jobs to Kent Messenger in Larkfield - not as a paper boy - but as a carpenter and handyman until retirement in 2009.
During his early years, he scrimp and saved and amazingly built the family house in Hempstead over 50 years ago with some help from his friends and family. The house has hosted many BBQs, parties and card games over the years!
As a young adult, he broke his leg during a motorbike accident and had a long metal pin inserted that is there to this day. Then some years later, during the early 2000's, someone knocked him off his motorbike and broke his wrist. No pin this time, but an arm cast and some time off work!
You would have found Len, down the shed woodworking or welding, in the garage tinkering with his car/motorbikes, or on the computer buying up a bargain from eBay.
During his retirement, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer which after a round of treatment he overcame - all throughout continued to laugh and joke and carry on as nothing had changed. He would dabble in many hobbies to keep busy, from making rum and raisin ice cream, making his own Dutch shuffle table board, sewing, golf, bowls and dancing. The last few hobbies came around and he joined various social groups and clubs - WigmARA, HempARA, Sturdee Bowls Club and Bredhurst Bowls.
He was fond of a holiday and enjoyed a beer, cider or cocktails (not fussy!) during camping in his Mazda Bongo down the coasts, and family holidays to Spain, USA, Portugal and Madeira.
He worked non-stop and helped others to the end and was frequently down his children's house, hanging ceilings, tearing down concrete walls, plumbing and renovating any room in the house! This along with maintaining his own house, building sheds, installing decking, and making bits and bobs for his friends.
Len will be truly missed by all that knew him along with his wink, nod, smile and the way he made us all laugh.
