I am Michael's younger brother and along with our sister Jill, we all grew up in Buxton Derbyshire. Michael was the eldest, then Jill was born six years later and then me after another six years. So Michael was born before the second world war and so as a child, he lived through all the horrors of that which he remembered. As a family, we didn't have much money but we were a very close loving family. Michael was also very close to our paternal Gran and Grandad who he admired greatly and spent a lot of his early years with them. Grandad had fought in the first world war gaining various medals which he returned after it had always been said that the troops would come home to a land fit for heroes. Later in life Michael successfully went through a long campaign to get these medals retrieved. As a family, we were all very proud of Michael's achievements in his career, serving in both the Household Cavalry and Nottingham city police, particularly in the mounted section. Michael and I were both very upset when we lost sister Jill nearly twelve years ago now, and now Michael has been taken from us. I have lots of happy memories of him and I shall miss having him there. My wife, two sons and I will all be at the funeral service tomorrow.
