IN LOVING MEMORY OF PETER DUNCAN LAND.
It is with the greatest sadness I have to inform you, that Peter Duncan Land, born on the 21st February 1962 in Hornchurch, Essex, passed away at home on the 6th December 2022. He was the beloved son of the late Leslie and Laura Land, and was the second youngest of five children.
He grew up in Hornchurch and was a member of the Boys Brigade and the Sea Cadets, both of which he thoroughly enjoyed. He had many fond memories of his childhood and particularly enjoyed going fishing with his Father and eldest brother, and also spending days on their boat with his mother and younger sister.
Peter was a loving, loyal and devoted husband to Susan and a very proud and dedicated Father to Luke, who was his best friend, and who he absolutely adored.
Peter was in his wife’s words “One in a million”. He was a hardworking, caring, kind, considerate, loyal, honest, thoughtful, and the most generous person, who was there to help others, would rather give than receive, and always saw the best in people.
He was a real adventurer and traveller, and met his wife Susan in Australia in 1992, whilst travelling the East Coast. Along with their son Luke, they travelled the world together over the years and visited many countries and continents.
Peter dived the Great Barrier Reef, went whale watching and game fishing in New Zealand, where he caught and proudly displayed a large tuna. He dived in a cage for sharks in South Africa, safaried in Kenya, planned and explored Namibia in a 4 X 4, soaked up the hot springs in the Azores, and enjoyed fishing and birdwatching in the many countries he visited.
He enjoyed exploring his country too, and travelled all around the United Kingdom, with Norfolk and Suffolk being some of his favourite places. He loved nature and was an avid bird watcher. He always had his binoculars in the glove compartment of his car or around his neck whilst walking, in the hope of spotting a rare bird or animal along his way.
Peter had so many interests and hobbies, and enjoyed all sports including golf, cricket, snooker and football. He supported West Ham United with a passion throughout his life, even when he moved to the midlands. His love of music was clear to see and his idol was Bruce Springsteen, who he followed from the age of 18, and attended over 35 concerts.
Peter started his sales career at Curry's, and very quickly worked his way upwards managing his own store and becoming the youngest ever store manager. He spent most of his life working in the mobility industry, which he was totally dedicated to. He worked for Sunrise Medical initially and then moved to Invacare where he worked for or over 20 years. He was a very loyal employee, had great colleagues, dealers, NHS, and customers, and he enjoyed working with them all very much. He made many good friends over the years and was very saddened, when he suddenly became ill and unable to work.
Peter will be so very sadly missed, and leaves behind his wife of 25 years, his son, his mother and father in law, brothers, sisters, brother in laws, sister in laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, close friends, and Stitch his beloved Boston Terrier.
A church funeral service is scheduled for the 24th January, 2023, at 11.00am at Southwell Minster, Church Street, Southwell, Nottinghamshire, NG25 OHD, where Peter can be fondly remembered. A family cremation follows at Mansfield.
A wake has been arranged at Ye Olde Bridge Inn, Nottingham Road, Southwell, NG25 0SE, from 12.00 midday, and it is hoped that you will attend for refreshments, and to discuss the many happy times spent with Peter.
Family flowers only please. Donations can be made to:
