Janet was a very special friend and sister. We went to school together, studied together, grew up together, spent holidays in each other’s families and got up to all kind of pranks together. We telephoned a school friend and Janet pretended to be a boy who fancied her. We followed some people into the Russian Embassy in London and gave a teddy bear to Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space. We persuaded Cilla Black’s Road Manager and future husband Bobby that we had been told we could interview her for our school magazine. Cilla was so lovely to us both. Janet’s first job was as a Junior Secretary at the BBC in Shepherds Bush. She had access to lots of free tickets to shows. My dear sister Janet was beautiful, fun, full of life and an amazing friend. At times she came back to the UK and we were able to catch up. I remember her visiting me in 1974 and we spent the whole day chatting in our pyjamas only getting dressed just before my husband David arrived home from work. We spent years apart but once together it was the same relationship as always. More recently we were able to chat daily on Messenger and FaceTime. I showed her around our holiday home in Italy last September. It was such a blessing to renew our relationship, to chat on a daily basis and share memories and concerns together. I am missing her so much!

Mrs. Cerdeño was the heart of Greengates. In Junior school we enjoyed her story times. Her love for books, made avid readers out of all of us. Going to the Library was an oasis. She had the best advice when things were hard. She had a listening heart to embrace our sorrows and frustrations. She knew how to encourage all of us. As a Mother, she had the superpower of making Hector our hero. Through her example we knew that life could always be enjoyed. Her baking was a reflection of her beautiful soul. She is already greatly missed. Every time I start a new book, I will be thinking of her… may she be comfortably settled in a beautiful cloud, reading her favourite book, while watching over her family.

I have so many happy memories of our friendship during the years we were colleagues at Greengates and since. I always found Wendy to be positive, optimistic, sensible and great at solving problems. She was a stalwart friend, one you could always count on. She leaves a gap in many lives.

Hector - your mum taught me the love of books at an early age, and how excited we were to get our Scholastic orders in from our book purchases throughout the years. The Library at GG was a source of comfort and tranquility and I've always carried that with me. She was a wonderful person. I hope your memories an good times carry you all through the sadness ahead.
