In loving memory of David Charles Harris who sadly passed away on 19th December 2022, aged 88 years .
He was born in Harrow on 15th November 1934 . He spent his early years in WW2 in Herne Bay . He loved the beach , sea and learnt to play Roller hockey and went on to represent England with many of his Herne bay team mates .
In 1960 , he married my mother Patricia and moved to his first house on the Darland estate Gillingham - overlooking fields . Their only daughter Sarah was born in January 1966 - he was a fantastic father who was endlessly patient - even with incomprehensible maths homework ! He played games with me and encouraged me to play sport and eventually golf
David had a career as a merchant bank manager for Hambros Bank and then went to work for a client and great friend David Evans in finance . He loved his time he spent as Manager of the Middle East operations . He was able to travel within the Gulf and shared times there with my mother . He still has friends in Oman today .
He lived his life to the full and particularly enjoyed sport . In his younger days after roller hockey , he played cricket and hockey for Gore Court where he made many lifelong friends . In his mid 40s he took up golf and joined Faversham Golf Club . A course he loved and a club which remained dear to his heart . He was very proud to be made President of the club . He enjoyed playing with the Old Cock Pheasants and Tuesday crowd particularly after retirement into his 80s .
In the last 3 years of his life , mobility became more difficult and he gave up driving and golf . He enjoyed the home and garden he shared with my mother in Hartlip for nearly 40 years . However he greatly missed the cameraderie of golf .
He enjoyed many golf trips in the UK and loved going to Portugal to play golf with Robin , my husband , and I . We also all enjoyed trips to South Africa with my mother - sight seeing in this beautiful country , playing golf and enjoying the food and wine . The lovely Beach bar in Burgau Portugal is a great favourite with us all
When I first had an autograph book as a youngster , he wrote in it : ' When the last great scorer comes to write against your name , he will ask not if you lost or won but how you played the game ' . I did not understand what it meant at the time , but understand now what a great game my father played
Family flowers only please .
