In loving memory of Colin Frederick Ablitt who sadly passed away on 16th December 2022. A true gentleman who had time and took an interest in everyone he met. He leaves behind his wife Marian who he loved dearly, and who he cared for selflessly and tirelessly at home when her Alzheimer's became more advanced. His three daughters, Teresa, Annette and Helen. Six grandchildren Emily, Harriet, Clare, Stuart, Jacob & Eve plus Harry his Great grandchild. His brother Ivor and sister Rita.
Colin was full of fascinating stories of his early life in Ipswich and Playford, which he always recounted with fondness and a smile. He spent his national service in Germany, which had a powerful and long lasting impact. Sport was always a prominent part of Colin's life, from setting up his beloved Murray Rangers FC through to being an active member of the Hockley Bowls club in his later years.
In 1958 he married Marian in Ipswich, and soon after they started their family together, moving briefly to Birmingham before settling in Billericay, Essex, where they stayed to raise their daughters. For many years Colin commuted into London for work as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer for Commercial Union Insurance company. Upon retiring, him and Marian took up golf and had many subsequent happy years playing at Warley Park and Ballard's Gore Golf Clubs, taking part in all aspects including competitions and social events.
When walking the fairways was becoming more challenging, they embraced other activities such as Bowls at Hockley Bowls club, again enjoying both the social and sporting aspects of the club, especially the quiz nights which Colin particularly enjoyed partaking in with his family. He was a strong follower of Ipswich Town football club throughout his life, and the news that they had moved to the top of the league brought a rye smile to his face on one of his last days.
Colin leaves behind a rich legacy of family values and kindness to all. There are many worthy charities which could've been chosen in Colin's memory, however he would always have wanted the Huntingdon's disease Association to be chosen because of its impact on one of his daughter's family.
