This charity was close to Mum's heart, and I would like to give a little something for it.
Muriel Putnam (4 Apr 1927 - 4 Dec 2022)
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Muriel Putnam who sadly passed away on 4th December 2022, aged 95 years. Loved and missed by all her family and friends.
Muriel was born in London and lived in Barnet when there were fields near by. She remembered being able to see the fires of London in the Second World War and often said that her teen years were robbed from her because of the war.
Muriel was the third child born to Evelyn and Henry Kember, and was considered to be a delicate child. This view was taken by the doctor when he heard Muriel's rapid heart beat. He did not realise that her fast heart beat was the direct result of her fear of the doctor! However, Muriel did suffer ill health when she was about 11 years old as she contracted TB of the stomach. She then missed out on a lot of schooling but eventually went to a convent school and learnt to type. She worked for about 18 months for an accountant which always amused her because she said her worst subject was maths and her job entailed making the columns of figures add up and match. When her boss died, Muriel stayed at home doing jobs for her mother and writing letters to a man called Ben Putnam, whom she had met through her brother.
She had a long and happy marriage to Ben and had three children, Priscilla, Penelope and Robert. By the age of 95 Muriel also had six grandchildren and eight great grand children. She could look back on a life well lived and had many memories of countries visited, including France, USA and Australia and many happy times with the family.
