Pamela Lawrence (31 Jan 1945 - 11 Dec 2022)

In loving memory of Pamela Ann Lawrence who sadly passed away very suddenly on 11th December 2022, aged 77 years.

Remembering someone whom touched the hearts of so many. As we recall on Pam’s life story we are each reminded of the loving, selfless and strong woman she was. Pam was born on the 31st of January 1945 at the family home of 150 Milkwood Road London, to parents Frederick and Violet, Pam was one of seven children being a sibling to, John, Linda, Peter, Sylvia, Gerald and Phyllis

Pam attended the Jessop Road primary school and went onto Turner road secondary, it was during her school years that she meet her future husband Fred Lawrence, they went on to marry on the 9th of March 1962 and became parents to eight children, Tina, Harry, Freddy, Ann, Pamela, Daphne, Tony who sadly passed away at one day old and Linda. As well as these eight children, they also became loving guardians to seven of Pam’s sister’s children in 1993 Sarah ,John, Brendan, Kelly, Martina, Katrina, and Sean.

With Pam’s husband Fred being in the Royal Fusiliers, Pam was committed to being an Army wife which saw them relocate many times, including Colchester where they welcomed their first born Tina, onto Germany where they welcomed their two sons Harry and Freddy. In 1968 they was stationed back in Folkestone where Ann was born Fred left the army in 1968 and the family moved back to London where Pamela was born in Dulwich hospital in 1970. In 1972 the family moved to Woodfield Close, here in Folkestone, first at No. 43 where Daphne and Linda was born then in 2008 moving to No. 35. Living in the close for exactly 50 years.

Pam dedicated her life to being not only a devoted wife and Mother but also a Grandmother to 92 grandchildren and great-children, with her latest great-grandchild Delilah being born just a few days before Pam was sadly taken ill.

Fred and Pam had a very welcoming home, always having an open door, no matter what time you called on them you were always embraced by their generosity. With Fred calling out “Stick the kettle on winkle”. Pam’s hospitality extended to Christmas time when she would prepare home-cooked food which included sausage rolls, cheese straws, mince pies but to name a few.

Not only did she mean so much to her family but also to her many lifelong friends, one, in particular, being family friend Flo whom she shared not only special times with but also some great laughs. When talking about Pam’s caring nature we cannot forget to mention the love she shared for her animals, most recently being her little dog Todd whom she thought the world of.

In her early years Pam first worked a weekend job, at Nevilles’s Bakery and then Poldies Hair Fashion in Milkwood Road.
After moving to Folkestone Pam worked as a waitress in the Sunshine Cafe on Cheriton Road.

When we come to remember Pam be it as a Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt or Friend we will always think of her with an overwhelming feeling of love, warmth and affection for the remarkable woman she was. And as we reflect on Pam’s life I am sure you each can recall an abundance of memories you will each carry for years to come as I think we will all agree she is truly unforgettable.
