In loving memory of Kate Wilson who passed away on 10th December 2022.
Born in London in 1949, the second daughter of an American mother and English diplomat father, Kate lived in Sri Lanka and Washington DC as a child and teenager due to our father's career. After graduating from the University of York and a short spell working at Penguin Books, she qualified as a solicitor. This led her into film and entertainment law, which brought her excitement and success first at Channel 4, where she was part of the founding team, and later as head of British Screen. After a breast cancer diagnosis, Kate left London in 1998 to live in Wiltshire with her sister and brother in law, where she continued to act as a legal consultant on many films.

Kate is remembered as a fiercely intelligent, fun-loving and humorous friend by many, and as a kind and devoted aunt and 'Grauntie' to 6 nieces and nephews, and 9 great-nieces and nephews. Despite her cancer returning 5 years ago, she enjoyed singing with Calne Choral and volunteering at GWH. Her music and laughter still ring in the hearts and minds of her many friends and admirers.

Remembering Kate, a dear friend. I recall all the fun and laughter we shared, as well as moments of peace, beauty and even pathos. Kate will be much missed by many people.

  • Thank you Rosie, not only for this but also for your sensitive involvement in her final weeks. Also for organising the choir to sing at the funeral, a wonderful moment. Sue
