In loving memory of Patricia (Pat) Lardner who sadly passed away on 9th December 2022.
Born in Glasgow in December 1944 to John and Jesse McKenzie, Mum would be the eldest of three siblings. Brothers John and Thomas would follow and they would all grow up together on Glasgow's Southside.
Living on the Southside, Mum spent lots of time in the Gorbals before the family moved to Castlemilk. Mum attended Holyrood Secondary School and excelled in all subjects and was always proud to speak of her love for Italian and Latin. She was a keen music lover and around 1959 as Cliff Richard appeared on the silver screen she fell in love with his music and would become a true super fan for life.
A keen dancer, Mum would frequent the 'Dancin' in Glasgow on a weekend even finding her way to the forbidden yet famous Glasgow 'Locarno'. Mum would meet her soon to be Husband Ian in Glasgow and go onto marry in 1966. Just three years later, along came the first baby in Steven and not long after followed Donna Marie. By this time, the family had moved to Cumbernauld as many did back then following work opportunities in the New Town.
Life was tough for Mum for many years but she always kept smiling even when diagnosed with chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis which would cause havoc and pain for many years. She worked as a Clerkess in Glasgow during her early working years before looking after the children. Mum later found herself a new role as an assistant within Cumbernauld's newest chip shops and was the first assistant to work in the newly opened Trio Chip Shop in Abronhill which famously featured in the movie Gregory's Girl.
A move eventually found Mum settled with the family in Kirkintilloch, a place she only just recently said really felt like home. She worked as a Domestic Assistant at Lennox Castle Hospital before moving to Woodilee Hospital and becoming a Nursing Assistant and then until her retirement at 72yrs old at Stobhill Hospital.
Mum spent life talking and telling stories and with wishes to spend much of her spare time travelling with Dad, they managed to enjoy some wonderful cruises together.
Steven and Donna would eventually get married to Jennifer and Alan respectively, both of whom Mum loved dearly.
Grand children would follow and dominate her life with Jamie arriving first then Mhairi followed by Nicola and then late to the family was Cailin. She dedicated every waking minute with thoughts of her grandchildren, looking after them and travelling with them when she could.
She was the head of the family and without a sister but spent over 40 years doting on her adopted sister Anne Marie who was married to youngest brother Thomas. They rocked many a place together over the years, travelling, dancing and laughing and with the same dedicated love for all things Cliff Richard.
Patricia put aside all adversity in life in favour of making others happy as much as possible with a love and kindness which was a gift. Despite deep shock and worry when she was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer, it was with her own inevitable style that she set aside her worries externally and fought the disease with everything she could. Tragically and after suffering terribly Mum would pass away at Marie Curie, Glasgow with dreams and aspirations cruelly cut short and taken away too soon.
Mums legacy will however reign on through Steven, Donna Marie, Jamie, Mhairi, Nicola, Cailin, Jennifer, Heather and Anne Marie. The boys in Dad, Thomas, Alan, John, Christopher and John Mac will ensure she is never forgotten.
Love you always Mum, now and forever.
Steven, Donna Marie and Dad. X
