Lizzie began life as Elizabeth Mathison Jones in Queen Charlotte's Hospital in London and spent the first few years of her life living in Chiswick. She was the first of four girls born to Bill and Betty Jones.
After a move to Bristol their second daughter, Caroline, arrived, followed four years later by Annabel. While in Bristol Lizzie started school and attended events organised by the National Society for Mentally Handicapped Children (later Mencap) after her mother was involved in setting up the Bristol branch.
In 1958 there was another move, this time to Bournemouth where Philippa was born. At the age of 14 Lizzie went to live at Coldeast Hospital near Southampton, followed some years later by Bridge Hospital in Witham where she was very happy.
Lizzie’s last 18 years were spent in the care of MacIntyre charity and these were definitely her happiest; first at Woodacre and then a bungalow in Tiptree. The staff are all amazing and we were bowled over by the wonderful love and care they showed our sister.
Lizzie will be missed by us all for her funny, exasperating and demanding ways but also for her musical talents! What a character!
