Eleanor Clarke (Granny Lane)
Our family are hugely saddened to tell everyone that our dearly loved Mum, Granny and Great Granny has passed peacefully away at the age of 97.
She moved from Newton Abbott in Devon to Hythe during the 2nd World War to work in the drawing office of Power Boats where she met and married our Dad, the late Ron Lane.
They brought up their 5 children in Waterman's Lane, Dibden Purlieu where they became very well known in the community and beyond.
Ron passed away in 1976 and Eleanor continued his legacy by showing his woodcarvings and slides and providing support with an annual wordcarving competition for children in the area.
Eleanor remarried in 1981 to Ron Clarke gaining 2 step children and a caravan. They both enjoyed wonderful holidays throughout the UK as well as gardening in their Hollybank bungalow and adopted a furry member of the family, a golden retriever puppy, called Candy.
Sadly, Eleanor was widowed again in 1996 but had her big and growing family, with several grandchildren, to support her.
She will probably always be best known as 'The Playdoh Lady' in the Toddler Group at Cornerstone Church which she reluctantly retired from at the age of 90! She recounted her happy days at the church, her other family, and saw many children grow up and, in turn, bring their children too.
Up until very recently Eleanor still enjoyed her forest trips, beach hut days, huge family gatherings and Sunday roast dinners.
After a fall in August she became very frail and, sadly, never recovered. Even up until the last we still saw her beautiful smile. We lost her on Friday 21st October.
The New Forest was her home and her love and she may now walk the paths again with her beloved dog Candy at her side.
We are having a service to Celebrate the Life of Eleanor on Monday 7th November at 2pm in Cornerstone United Reformed Church, Hythe SO45 6BR
Everyone that knew her is welcome.
