Funeral Director
In loving memory of John ‘Sam’ Green who passed away peacefully on 18th October surrounded by his family.
John joined the fire service when he was 19 and was affectionately known as ‘Sam’ throughout his service. It was a career he both loved and respected and was lucky to have made lifelong friends along the way.
Many of you may know that John was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2020. This came as a huge shock to the family and as someone who loved life he found illness unbearable. That said, he lived for his family and was determined to live life to the full. Many fun times were had along the way and memories made that will last a lifetime. He was determined to attend his Granddaughter’s wedding on Saturday 15th October which he managed to do.
John (Sam) leaves behind his wife of 56 years Cheryl, who lovingly cared for him throughout. Your kind wishes, cards and flowers have been a huge comfort to her and she has asked to express her sincere thanks.
John also leaves behind his four children – Nicola, Alan, Stuart and James, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Every one of us were lucky to have an individual relationship with him and he was truly at his happiest when surrounded by family. We will all miss him immensely but are thankful for his love throughout our lives.
John’s funeral will be held at Southend Crematorium on Thursday 24th November at 1400 hrs. All who knew John/Sam are very welcome to attend. Afterwards we would love you to join us in celebrating his life at Southend Fire Station.
If you would like to send flowers you would be very welcome however if you wish to make charity donation in memory of John then please do. John’s chosen charities are:
• The Fire Fighter’s Charity – a charity which helps serving and retired firefighters in need of respite of convalescence due to illness
• The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) which was a charity John supported and admired throughout his life.
With sincere thanks from all the family x x x
