In loving memory of Sybil (Syb) Hickford who sadly passed away on 25th September 2022.

From Jacqui, Sybil’s sister

So - what do I say about my big sister Syb?
Amazingly single minded and motivated. What 80yr old lays a patio, builds steps, puts up a fence, and looks after a huge garden. This was her great love and joy.
Her love and knowledge of flowers and plants was evident in her garden, flower arranging and involvement in the local flower club. Always a good resource to call on when I needed any advise.
She was a person who was a perfectionist , and her amazing embroidery and skills with dressmaking and making stunning home furnishings were something I was always in awe of.
She didn’t mince her words!! Syb was honest and straightforward .
Also fun loving, loved her music and dance, determined to dance despite her ankles not cooperating!!
And of course, so very pretty, petite and determined to get the most out of life.
Always respected her and her personal identity.
She was a bit of a one off, which made her special.

If you’re wondering what to wear, please come dressed in the way that Sybil would’ve loved; perhaps with a splash of colour and certainly not sombre.”

Donations if desired are to Storrington Flower Club, as this is not a charity we cannot set up via just giving, so please either send a cheque made payable to Storrington Flower club, c/o Safe Hands Funeral Services or direct to Storrington Flower Club bank Lloyds account 2310833 sort code: 30 99 93

What a shock to read that Sybil had passed away. This was not expected! I first met Sybil when I started working as receptionist at St. Ermines Hotel in London. Sybil and Jacki were my bridesmaids in Sept. 1963. Although we (I and my then husband) moved to Canada, we always kept in touch at birthdays and other significant anniversaries. A few years ago I visited England and spent a night at Winchester enjoying the walk along the river. I always admired Sybil's get-up-and-go attitude, she was not afraid to tackle anything. I cannot remember if I have a photograph of Sybil astride a camel or an elephant, it does not really matter, just shows that she was prepared to try anything. The photograph that Rebecca posted is lovely, thank you. My sincere sympathy to all the family at this time of loss. Sybil, may you rest in peace knowing how many people loved and admired you.
