Godfrey Kanti (29 Apr 1953 - 9 Sep 2022)
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Godfrey Kanti who sadly passed away on 9th September 2022
Godfrey was born in April 1976 in Kampala Uganda, he grew up in Ntida.
Godfrey was mixed race as his mother was Ugandan and his father Indian. Godfrey was one of 7 children and he was the 4th oldest child he had 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
Godfrey used to ride his bicycle to Kalinabiri primary school and later Kololo city high secondary school.
As a young man he fathered his first daughter Ruth who he loved very much.
Godfrey left his home country in February 1975 due to Uganda being unstable, he arrived in America New Jersey as a refugee and from there decided to join his mother and father in England. He then started looking for various different jobs where he worked on building sites and in factories. While working at one of the factory jobs he met Linda who he married and had two children Louise and Sarah, after the divorce he moved back in with his mother Anna.
Unfortunately Godfrey's mental health wasn't always great but he looked forward to seeing his children at his mother's and spending time with them. Godfrey became a Jehovah's Witness and would attend church whenever he was able. Godfrey would regularly write letters to his daughter Ruth and catch up with other family members, by letters and by telephone.
Godfrey lived alone once his mother decided to go back to Uganda to live, Godfrey went on to live in Hedge End, he later moved back to to Netley Abbey.
Godfrey went back to Uganda for a holiday to visit family and friends. He later went on to remarry, some time later he got divorced.
My dad was a generous man who always helped his family in Uganda financially as well as donating to charities, he loved all three of his daughters and others in his family. He was inquisitive, he liked to laugh and joke but unfortunately he was a man that at times was troubled by his mental health problems. Godfrey also
enjoyed listening to music, eating chocolate, cooking, especially Indian foods, relaxing, catching up with family, socialising when he could at church.
