Margaret was a beloved wife, mum, nanny, sister nd friend to many. She grew up in Peckham,
London where she lived with her parents and her brother Michael. When she was 16 , she met Pete
who became her lifelong love. They married in 1973 and moved to Southend where Sarah was born
in 1977. She and Pete moved to Rochford where she had Laura and Lisa in 1980, then to Hawkwell
and finally to Ashingdon where they lived for 22 years. Margaret was the foundation of her happy
family which grew as grandchildren George, Jack, Alfie, Sofia, Olly, Isabella and Freddy came along
and she spent many happy hours with them.
She made it look easy running a household and looking after her children and grandchildren
alongside working. As a young women, she worked for Irish Distillers and had many an amusing tale
to tell from those days. Once she moved to Southend, she worked in the Teachers’ Centre and in
various administrative roles in the NHS and in both jobs she made long lasting friendships. When
Pete set up his printing business, she became the Company Secretary and played a huge part in its
success, making sure that everything ran smoothly. Her speciality was chasing up unpaid invoices
where she was formidable in ensuring these were paid.
Margaret enjoyed travel and she and Pete had wonderful holidays, including cruises which gave her
the chance to indulge her love of shopping for clothes to make sure that she had a range of outfits.
She was always stylish and had a keen eye for what would look good. Typically, Margaret’s
instruction for her funeral was that mourners should not wear black but instead should dress to
impress as if they were going to a wedding.
Margaret spent the last 3 weeks of her life at Havens Hospice and the family would like to thank the
staff for the wonderful and compassionate care that they provided. To express their appreciation,
they ask that people do not give flowers but instead make a donation in memory of Margaret to
Havens Hospice
