In loving memory of Laura Cox, who passed away on 20th August 2022 in her twenty first year. Laura was, and will always be, deeply loved by her family and friends. She will be forever missed.
Laura was an amazing, larger than life young woman whose kindness, profound intelligence and uniquely observant sense of humour brightened the lives of so many. Perhaps Laura's defining characteristic was her passion, which was the driving force behind her remarkable displays of bravery and empathy in the face of injustice and suffering, whether this was protesting for minority rights, or debating politics with her dad.
Laura's nature led her to take on one of the great social injustices of our time - social care for the elderly - by beginning work as a care assistant; a role to which she was exceptionally well suited. In time she decided to train to become a nurse, earning a place to study at King's College London. Everyone who met her knows that she would have made an incredible nurse.
Many of those Laura cared for during her time as a care assistant suffered with Alzheimer's disease and helping those with this condition was important to Laura. She was acutely aware of the suffering this disease causes, not just to the person but also the families that love them.
There will be a private service of committal for immediate family only. Rather than flowers, Laura's family request that in Laura's memory donations are made to Alzheimer’s Research UK who work to fund and deliver research to better understand dementia, improve diagnosis and find better treatments and preventions for what is an awful disease.
